Captain Marvel (2019)
T'Challa: Everett! What are you doing tomorrow?
Ross: Having my day ruined with whatever you’re about to ask me to do.
Venom: "E D D I E"
Venom: "We need to watch some cat vines now, Eddie."
Venom: "Open up your computer and take us to the cat vines."
Eddie, his knuckles white as he clutches his pillow: "I have an interview at 9 AM --"
Venom: "WE WILL WATCH THE CAT VINES."
Venom: "OR WE WILL EAT AN ACTUAL CAT."
Peter (under his breath upon seeing T’Challa lounging in his suit): Sing me the song of your people Soup!
T’Challa: Did you say something Spider-Boy?
Shuri ( Across the room ): Sing me the song of your friends SOUP!
T’Challa: Wait … Not again please!
Peter & Shuri: Sing me a song for the good times SOUP!
T’Challa (Crying): Why is this happening to me?!
Peter & Shuri (Loudly): Sing me a song, a song. HEY SOUP!
you hold your child as tight as you can. [then push away the unimaginable.]
One of the most moving parts of the kneeling scene is all the Wakandans joining– they’re royalty, they’re on a whole other level to the rest of those heroes, but T’challa is one of the first to go down and pay his respects. To show that he was humbled by Tony’s decision. A king, kneeling for a man who saved him and his people. Like…. it just says so much about T’challa/ Okoye/ Shuri, and the humility they carry with them.
Tony died for them, sacrificed for them, and now they kneel for him alongside the rest of the fighters.
Tony: Oh man September! The falling leaves, The slightly chilling weather, The colorful leaves—
Peter, T-posing behind Tony w/ a disappointed look on his face wearing a Jack Skellington coustume: It’s time.
as an aspiring actor, i have a few things i wanna say. people who make videos/posts saying
“iT’s cAlLeD aCtInG fOr a ReAsOn”
to argue that cis people can play trans roles (e.g. a cis woman playing a trans man) knows nothing about fucking acting in the first place. stay in your lane.
y’all need to understand what a CASTING TYPE is, and what is so important about a CASTING ROLE. this means what kind of person you can play. yes, acting can mean you can become ANYONE….when it’s relevant to do so. it is not for the majority of camera work- for film and tv (and even lot of live theatre also) it is obviously a VERY image based industry, because the acting required is VERY naturalistic.
when working in this way, which is what we are USED to seeing all the time, the people cast in those roles are cast for a reason. because they fit the description. and BECAUSE they fit the description, they are able to do a lot more internal work which therefore ENHANCES their performance to make it more believable. SHOCKING, RIGHT???
say if you are auditioning for a part that REQUIRES you to be a very tall natural redheaded girl, a short-statured, bearded man would not get that part. why?
BECAUSE HE DOES NOT FIT THE CASTING ROLE.
if a role requires you to be an elderly black man, would a 20 year old white man get the part? NO! if a role requires you to be a chubby person 5”6 or under and someone with a gym-built body type tries to audition, are they gonna get the part? NO!
the role descriptions are there to portray a character as ACCURATELY as possible. this is why representation is important.
so when you cast trans people in those roles they are not only making everybody’s job easier, but you are allowing a character to BE that character, not to imitated, to BE!!!
when you cast a cis person as a trans character, you are sending the message that trans people are not trans, they are cis people pretending to be/dressing like the opposite gender, which is what you CHOOSE to portray on screen. which IS NOT RIGHT in any way. trans men are men. trans women are women. non binary people EXIST. stop erasing our identities because of your laziness and ignorance.
i can’t stress this enough. let trans people play trans people.
