Thieves In Time Redux Mission Recaps #2

Here is everything Penelope does in each mission... This includes who is assigned to each mission. You'll notice some of them were reassigned from canon.

Check out what happens in each mission here.

Bold: New mission

Italics: Reassigned

Paris Tutorial:

Sly's Segment (Sly): Nothing.

Bentley's Segment (Bentley): Follows Bentley through the sewers.

Penelope's Segment (Penelope): Tries to find Bentley after getting separated from him. Saves him from a guard's wrath.

Murray's Segment (Murray): Nothing.

Turning Japanese:

Photo Op (Sly): Nothing.

Breakout (Sly): Nothing.

Sushi House Startup (Sly): Nothing.

Something's Fishy (Bentley): Helps Bentley and Murray advance further in the fish caves. Also snoops around for information, but only hears ill words about El Jefe.

Pretty In Pinker (Murray): Nothing.

Tiger Tail (Penelope): Convinces Bentley to follow El Jefe instead of her. Goes snooping around the geisha house for information, but only hears general grievances against El Jefe's boss.

Spiked Sushi (Rioichi): Nothing.

Altitude Sickness (Sly): Joins the group for the mission. Tries to go rogue in pursuit of the blimp. Runs into Sly and El Jefe's duel, then decides to help Sly via aerial support. Also gets scolded for running off, mostly by Bentley.

Go West, Young Raccoon:

Under Arrest (Sly): Nothing, though she does convince Sly to take out some of Toothpick's men.

Jailhouse Blues (Bentley): Nothing, though she does have a lengthy chat with Bentley about her running off last episode.

Cooper For Hire (Bentley): Helps Murray protect Bentley from a bed of scorpions.

Saloon Bug (Sly): Snoops around Toothpick's office, then opts to move further ahead for more information. She finds very little apart from Toothpick's men complaining about their boss.

Blind Date (Tennessee): Nothing, though she does gain permission to stay behind while the boys try to fetch Carmelita.

Jail Break (Penelope): Joins Tennessee and Carmelita to free the boys from jail. Focuses on freeing Bentley.

Grand Key Larceny (Murray): Wins at a mechanical bull riding competition in disguise.

OP: Gold Digger (Sly): Placed on van retrieval duty with Murray. Also provides aerial support during Toothpick's boss fight.

Clan Of The Cave Raccoon:

Stone Age Reconnaissance (Sly): Nothing.

Unexpected Ties (Sly): Nothing.

Getting Stronger (Bob): Demonstrates events for Bob. Falls ill after the mission is cleared. Placed on bed rest for several missions.

Going Up (Murray): Nothing. Bed rest.

Starving Starving Hippo (Murray): Nothing. Bed rest.

Ice Ice Bentley (Bentley): Nothing, though she does gather enough strength to check up on Bentley. (No, she does not go in person.) Bed rest.

Duty Calls (Sly): Nothing. Released from bed rest after this mission. Has seen the error of her ways by the beginning of the next mission.

OP: Jurassic Thievery (Penelope): Placed with Murray and Carmelita. Provides aerial support for Bob. Gets roped into The Grizz's boss fight with Murray. Helps Murray with the boss fight, even dealing the final blow.

Of Frogs And Mechs:

Shopping Spree (Sly): Nothing.

Juggling Act (Sly): Nothing.

Cane Swipe (Penelope): Helps Sly distract the Black Knight's guards so he can steal back Sir Galleth's cane via aerial support.

Eye In The Sky (Sir Galleth): Nothing.

Mechanical Menace (Sir Galleth): Nothing, though she does offer Sly advice on salvaging his broken relationship with Carmelita.

Short Supply (Murray): Helps Murray out in the tavern.

Untitled SSH (needs new name) (Penelope): Follows the Black Knight around instead of Sly. Bentley joins her in the blacksmith's. Sir Raleigh is exposed as the villain of this episode, alongside his creation Robo-Penelope.

Hard Target (Sly): Gets kidnapped after mission is completed.

Princess Out Of Distress (Bentley): Escapes from said kidnapping situation. Runs into impostor and fights her. Bentley helps her defeat said impostor. Also includes a double love confession.

OP: Frog Trap (Sly): Impersonates impostor in order to severely weaken Raleigh and free Sly from the villain's clutches. Declares loyalty to Team Sly. Helps everyone finish the villain off.

40 Thieves:

Lost And Found (Sly): Nothing, though she is stated to have helped Bentley perfect some new technology for Sly.

Open Sesame (Sly): Nothing.

Rug Rats (Salim): Sends her car into the tower to help Salim free one of his allies.

Up In Smoke (Bentley): Helps Bentley during his portion of the mission.

Copy Cats (Murray): Joins Sly and Murray in person, then gets trapped in with Murray. Manages to get Murray out of the caves safely, but not before helping Sly find another of Salim's allies.

Heavy Metal Meltdown (Rename?) (Salim): Submits an EDM track for use in the mission, which turns out more effective than in canon.

Untitled New Mission (Penelope): ?????????

All Rolled Up (Sly): Finds an alternative to Carmelita having to belly dance, though the cop does still have to stay behind. Joins the boys for the hangar raid, pulling more than her fair share of weight. Gets outed as Le Paradox's ally, then refuses to rejoin him. Helps defeat Miss Decibel.

Paris Epilogue:

Deja Vu All Over Again (Penelope): Leads the blimp raid. Starts the final boss fight. Refuses to rejoin Le Paradox again. Also ends said boss fight and wins, even saving Sly one final time in the process.

so seeing how Sly doesn't get stuck in Egypt, how does it end?

Well, of course our four heroes end up staying together. Beyond that, I'm not sure where to take them.

Sly and Carmelita? Sly has given up on a future with her. Does Carmelita want to make up with him? Maybe.

Bentley and Penelope? They're engaged. A very well deserved reward after she took down Le Paradox and led everyone to victory on his blimp. She's been forgiven, though she is having trouble with forgiving herself.

Writing Notes: Types of Characters

Film still from The Great Gatsby (1974)

You may recall from your literature classes that characters can be “flat” or “round,” and likewise, “minor” or “major.”

A character also may be a protagonist or antagonist.

Look at F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby for examples of character types.

Note that the characters in the novel are more complex than what is stated here, and that Gatsby faces other antagonists—such as class, bourgeois snobbery, and the progression of time itself.

Protagonist: the main or central character, the hero (Gatsby)

Antagonist: opponent or enemy of the protagonist (Tom Buchanan)

Flat/Minor: a character(s) who helps readers better understand another character, usually the protagonist. Also, “a static and undeveloped character of two dimensions” (Knorr and Schell 165). (Nick Carraway)

While Gatsby is our protagonist, the one who we want to succeed, his success would mean ousting his beloved Daisy’s husband, Tom Buchanan.

An idea can also function as an antagonist: Gatsby is also fighting against the bourgeois prejudice of elite 1920s New York City, where “old money”—such as the Buchanans—is worth more than new money, as exemplified by the divide between East Egg and West Egg.

Usually, the protagonist is also a Round character, “a developing three-dimensional character” (Knorr and Schell 165).

In other words, the protagonist must be a character that grows and changes during the story; it is the progress of this change that keeps the reader interested and cheering for the character.

Archetypes

Part of why The Great Gatsby has endured in American literature is because the characters are complex, rather than being simple archetypes.

You are already aware of many archetypes; you can recognize them in the movies you watch, such as the Reluctant Hero (Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games series).

Using an archetype is a kind of shorthand; if you put in a character like The Lonely Old Lady With A Dog, the reader recognizes the character and knows what to expect from them.

This may be helpful when populating your world with minor/flat characters, because it is reassuring and comforting to your reader; your reader knows these archetypal characters already.

Unfortunately, that also means that archetypal characters may be clichéd. Once you put your character down into their world, they can react in various ways to the setting and reality of their lives.

In Mooring Against the Tide: Writing Fiction and Poetry, Knorr and Schell write:

…your characters may react to the world in one of four ways. They may see this society and its values and assimilate by adopting those values as their own; they may accommodate in that they do not like those values but will adopt them anyway if only to get along; they may rebel against those values in any number of ways; or, they may take flight from that society and, as did Huck Finn, head out to the new territories.

In other words, just as our choices in life determine where we go, the plot of your story is determined by the nature of your characters.

These four choices might not seem to offer many different plot options, but in reality, they can play out in an infinite number of ways. Think about your favorite novel or short story—it’s likely that the main character is faced with a choice and has to pick one of the four routes described above.

Otherwise, there may not be much conflict in your story.

Why don’t you like sly 4

Bad story

Good charcter was completely rippsd apart for plot

Carmelita has a right to be angry and Sly has a right to explain his side of the story, they should've had a better resolve to their relationship than fucking "Sly I..." "I know."

Le Paradox

The entire story stood on a throwaway idea left on Sly3.

Lazy plot convenience with time travel

The ancestor(s) romance subplot. Fucking nasty

Penelope was made the villain cause they couldn't inplement the mole charcter that was supposed to be Mice and Mech's main baddy

Le Paradox

No villain (but Toothepick) feels like they're trying to slide by nonchalantly when they take over. It's "hey we're in the past and now we gotta conquer it" and no one (but again Toothpick) uses any time relevance to fit in or influence the surroundings.

Le Paradox

Fucking Le Paradox

This prick is a fickle fart compared to the sheer thunder Neyla made in Sly2. You want a family rival? Make a family rival that uses his established smarts instead of making him "ohohohoho so predictable!!hahahaha"

Also his boss fight, Sanzaru you shouldn't of brought back all the ancestors for one long fetch mission. Get cane, return to the past???

Honestly how did the ancestors just phase back into their own timeline they got to the present with the van.

Miss Decibel is the weakest female villain and only is ber boss fight in same difficulty as Mz Ruby cause goddamn as if the slow down power was mandatory.

AND TOOTHPICK WAS RALEIGH 2.0

El Jefe needed to chaange up his tactics cause why keep the Cooper you were sent back to capture, alive???

Grizz need to get on a grill and never leave

Penelope my baby what have they done to you.

She went down doing ugly fisticuffs with Bentley in a mecha.

Cooler option would've been to make the Mole, and have Penelope the Balck Knight STILL- but she was trapped in there without any control to the mecha.

Episode could've ended with Bentley beating the mecha, and the chest plate popping out, startling everyone as Penelope finally climbs out sweaty, disoriented, and tied up with extension cords. Cue Bentley vehemently apologizing as the Gang move on.

Sly is a dick to Murray and Bentley. And his suit sucks.

Dmitri never got a speaking role in game. Or missions.

Carm only got ONE MISSION.

Murray oh dear lord was the food gag pushed to an eleven.

Also Sly and Bentley being creeps.

What the fuck was up with the Ice Age episode.

Why wasn't Sly4 about Le Paradox trying to get Sly to slip out of his amnesia act so he'd get busted by Carmelita and start massive trouble.

But so why wasn't Sly4 not affected by any time alteractions. Sly could've been erased from existance, Bentley could've walked for a time before realizing he wasn't supposed to, Murray being a fraidy cat again.

How come Penelope and Dmitri didn't get any love in this game.

Why the fuck did a member of SuckerPunch say want the ping-pong minigame in there. Why.
