So we all know the AU where Sirius and Remus raise Harry, but I have a new suggestion. What if, after Alice and Frank are tortured to the point of insanity and James and Lily are murdered, Sirius and Remus take both Harry and Neville in.

Imagine Harry and Neville being raised as brothers with a solid support network. Imagine both of them having childhoods free of neglect and abuse and expectations. Them being raised with stories of their parents and a household full of love and kindness. Them getting to stay up at night, hiding out under the blankets with a flashlight to giggle about nothing. Them stealing cookie dough and bits of food while Sirius and Remus cook, making a competition out of it. Them going off to Hogwarts together, being sorted together, and having sleepovers in the same fourposter.

Then imagine little Teddy Lupin being born, probably when they’re still relatively young, maybe seven or eight. Them getting so excited, getting in Sirius and Remus’ bed to poke Remus’ stomach and talk to their baby sibling (and sometimes poke Sirius’ stomach just because they can). Them taking it upon themselves to teach Teddy new words and then turning it into a challenge to see who can teach them more. Them rushing Sirius to get them home from Hogwarts quicker every break so they can say hi to their little sibling. Them regaling Teddy with tales of the castle (some of which are more made up than others just to fuck with them) together.

Imagine their family being Sirius, Remus, Neville, Harry, and Teddy, living together and being happy. They all get a happy ending. They get to be safe and surrounded by love. Just… imagine.

Give me elementary school teacher Remus who teaches first graders and university professor Sirius who teaches physics and mechanical engineering. Give me Remus who takes out a feelings wheel and goes over basic communication skills with Sirius, because he never properly learned them as a child (namely due to Walburga and Orion’s abuse). Give me Sirius who helps Remus make little birthday and Christmas gifts for his students. Just… give me elementary school teacher Remus and university professor Sirius.

This is one of the most correct takes I’ve read today! Sirius is a really moral character, which is why he treats everyone (including house elves) the same. Kreacher, Molly, Snape, Dumbledore, Harry, Remus, Hermione, Ron; everyone follows the same rules when it comes to how Sirius treats them. That’s part of why he’s one of my favourites!

Sirius didn't look down on kreacher. If anything he spoke to him as an equal who he hated. Same with snape BTW. But like. Hermione always speaks down to house elves and talks to them like children (she means well but she still does this). Crouch and the others also speak down to elves (calling them 'elf' etc, far more vicious obviously)

But sirius doesn't talk to kreacher that way. He fights with him and everything but he also fights with molly, and I'm sure if molly started throwing around slurs against everyone he would be as vicious against her as he is with kreacher

So, I’m writing a werewolf!Sirius AU, and I’ve written this quote from his POV.

“Being alright involves letting his guard down, it means putting his trust in someone else’s hands, it means opening his bleeding heart to show off the monsters living in there, clawing at the organ and smearing crimson over his insides.”

I need you all to understand the amount of symbolism I put into this quote, particularly the second half.

It refers to him having a “bleeding heart” specifically (and I know it’s not in this excerpt, but it’s in the bigger thing) in reference to his childhood, along with monsters (his parents, etc.). This is inferring that he is extremely sympathetic and kind, and, because of everything he went through, he can relate to people’s pain even more, which makes him more empathetic.

The monsters living in there bit is a pretty obvious reference to trauma and self-hate, but them clawing at his heart and smearing blood is also symbolism. Blood is red, which is a reference to how his treatment in his childhood made him Gryffindor-brave, along with extremely passionate (which is what red means in colour theory!).

Also, subtle reference to the phrase “bleed your heart out” (meaning, “to suffer a great deal of emotional pain; to feel extreme sadness for someone else”). My boy has suffered and thinks too much about other people.

Anyways, I just really wanted to show off how much thought I put into this line, please appreciate it :)

Sirius Black who cries when Remus wears his clothes and nuzzles his face into them just to inhale the smell of him, smiling all the while. Sirius Black who cries when Remus does mundane favours for him, like picking up his favourite candy from the store or making him coffee in the morning. Sirius Black who is by no means a crybaby— Remus is the only one who has ever seen him cry— but breaks down every time Remus is domestically kind to him because of the way he was treated as a child.
