and every time he’d catch a glimpse of regulus his heart would skip a beat but also ache and he’d be overcome with a wave of sadness but didn’t even know why.

but as regulus was dying/getting weaker, the spell started wearing off and james got flashbacks of everything. by the time regulus took his last breath, james finally remembered everything. but it was too late.
