MY POLICEMAN (2022) dir. Michael Grandage
I adore the moment in a book when Character A changes what name they use for Character B. When they go from using a last name to a first, a pseudonym to a real name, a formal name to an informal one. I love how much it speaks to the level of intimacy one character feels towards another, how you can take note of the moment things change between them, how it almost divides the book into two parts. It's like catnip to me.
I'm Hanan, writing to you as a mother from Gaza, doing everything I can to keep my family and my child alive amidst this hell. 😥
My child cries nonstop from extreme hunger, and I am completely powerless to meet even his most basic needs. I am also pregnant and unable to provide the nutrition my body or the growing fetus inside me needs. 💔
We live in a catastrophic situation full of ongoing suffering. The crossings have been closed for months, not a single grain of wheat has entered, prices are out of control, and the occupation is tightening its grip in every possible way. we have been forced to cook wild herbs, plants we don’t even know the names of, just to silence our hunger. 😭
Please, we are living in a real famine. Any support, could save our lives and give us a chance to survive. 🙏

Honestly being overworked makes people unobservant and passive and it literally kills people every day. People don’t seem to realize that an overworked nurse might not notice your sepsis symptoms and a tired truck driver might not notice your car when he’s merging into the lane. Failing to protect worker’s rights impacts nearly everyone
Will I ever get over this? Nope
the kids in my class who use gen ai for half their assignments are not gonna appreciate me when i show up to our Dorian Gray discussion, going on a tangent about how art is more than just the end product and consuming it. It’s about the artist molding it with their hands. It’s the artist putting in so much of their blood sweat and tears that they leave their soul bare to the world. That they fear their art will drag forth a confession from them that they never meant to share. That their art will mirror and incriminate them for the sins committed by their heart.
yeah
