I wish more people were outraged about this. More people should be. In the span of what? A month? Netflix has not only cancelled Dead Boy Detectives, an incredible show with great acting, writing, film quality, etc... and characters that are queer, but they've announced a "modern retelling" of The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde, you know, the book that was so gay it was used as evidence in the author's sodomy trial, and they have chosen to make Basil and Dorian Gray siblings. I have seen so little talk about it, because people are feeling exhausted and defeated, but you know what? Exhausted silence only sends the message to this bloody company that they can continue to do this type of shit and nothing bad will come of it because people don't care enough to fight back. What choice do we have but to fight? We have to fight and show people that we won't tolerate this kind of thing. Dead Boy Detectives was a brilliant show, and this isn't the first time such an incident has happened. Dorian Gray does not deserve this atrocious "modern retelling". I am sick of being met with silence and really, it's overdue that we let these companies know how exactly they can fuck off. I so desperately want to see given to these works the same treatment that people gave to OFMD when it got cancelled. No one else is going to do it for you. Not enough people realise how strong their individual voice can be if they stand up and shout it out. Let's show these companies what fucking happens when they pull these kinds of stunts. Every action has a consequence.
"that ship isn't canon! that character isn't gay!" well thats not what the voices told me
Honestly being overworked makes people unobservant and passive and it literally kills people every day. People don’t seem to realize that an overworked nurse might not notice your sepsis symptoms and a tired truck driver might not notice your car when he’s merging into the lane. Failing to protect worker’s rights impacts nearly everyone
I think it's a damn shame that most adaptations of "The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde" give Jekyll/Hyde a girlfriend because if you read the original it's very clearly a book about Gabriel Utterson trying to dig up dirt on what he thinks is his boyfriend's new side hoe. Only to discover he's actually some weird alter ego created from a science experiment gone wrong.

Hey guys, so I feel weird making one of these, but my dad gave me the okay, so I’m doing so.
The above picture is of my sister, Raven, at her swearing in ceremony when she became a citizen, something she is very proud of and worked very hard towards. Raven is autistic, trans, and an immigrant. Unfortunately, since the election, Raven has been assaulted on two separate occasions, purely based on her appearance and what body parts bigoted people think she may have. They have called her horrible things and threatened her with even worse physical violence than they actually did. My dad is hoping to move from Texas to California, where she will be safer and much less likely to be attacked again. This move will cost a lot of money that sadly went to my dad’s cancer treatment a few years ago, as well as a more recent hospital stay. If you are in a position to help, please consider donating here to get my sister to a safer place.
To my uk trans people and allies out there.
I know most people don't care about anything unless it has to do with the U.S. but can we please start talking about the Canadian election.
Please don't vote for Poilievre. He's basically the Canadian Trump and plans to put in place laws that harm trans youth, and lots of other shit.
Please vote istg this is the only way anything will get better. Poilievre has been kissing millionaires and billionaires asses. He'll make life even harder, and he loves Trump.
Reblogs are appreciated, especially if you aren't Canadian.
I adore the moment in a book when Character A changes what name they use for Character B. When they go from using a last name to a first, a pseudonym to a real name, a formal name to an informal one. I love how much it speaks to the level of intimacy one character feels towards another, how you can take note of the moment things change between them, how it almost divides the book into two parts. It's like catnip to me.
