Junya Nakano – Town

30-Day Video Game Music Challenge (Super Hard Mode) Day 5: Hub world or overworld music From Threads of Fate (PS1, 1999)

This game’s town acts as a hub world. You’ll be greeted with this song between stages as you get to know everyone in town.

Pretend This Didn't Happen

Pretend This Didn't Happen

The world just keeps self-destructing. Did you plan to go to school, watch sports, or attend events? Too bad; it’s all cancelled for the rest of March. At least podcasts still work and Columbus improv comedy scene has one. Season 2 is now online featuring the lovely Jiko and the rest of Brainstorm. Put on some headphones, avoid the crowds, and Pretend This Didn’t Happen.

Chocolatey

Chocolatey

Chocolatey brings the power of Linux’s package manager to Windows, letting you download and install applications from the command prompt. Either that means nothing to you or you’ve already clicked the link because you couldn’t contain your excitement. I reinstalled Windows yesterday and used this to quickly get my applications back.

If Chocolatey Gallery has an application I want, I open command prompt as administrator (Windows Logo cmd Ctrl+Shift+Enter) and run choco install and the application name. With no further input, Chocolatey downloads and installs the package, avoiding unwanted add-ons. You can add dozens of applications in one choco install command and it installs them all one-by-one. To update everything, just do cup all.

Git is revision control software used mainly for software projects. BakaMo Studios uses a TortoiseSVN and a Subversion repository to do that. Choco doesn't just install TortoiseSVN, but Unity and Tiled too! Seriously, this thing is good.

PiNe – Pangaea

This one is from PiNe's artbook, Pangaea. I only found this one on the Tumblr and it doesn't show a name of its own.

Poleovermania Mario 3 Collections

Super Mario Bros. 3 has been out for 25 years and we still keep finding new ways to break it. Poleovermania puts on a master class in tool-assisted Mario 3 trickery and shows off dozens of the game’s lesser-known bugs. When I play the game, I can only do some of these tricks, usually by accident.

Yumi’s Odd Odyssey/Sayonara Umihara Kawase Stage Time Attacks

Two months ago, I told you I was hooked on this game. Since then, I’ve played for 47 hours, reached every door, collected every backpack, and got every survival mode ending. I’ve also brought the heat to the North American version’s leaderboards with dozens of stage times in the top three. Since this game helpfully lets you save replays, I get to show you how I got there. Enjoy!

Angry Video Game Nerd: Mega Man Games

The Nerd takes us back to his own past this time. In ten years on YouTube, James Rolfe’s editing skills have come a long way. This episode took 138+ hours of work! The Mega Man series is incredibly smooth at its core, but sometimes it loses sight of what makes it feel good to play.

Control Config Menus

Control Config Menus

I’ve been updating my VOGJAM game Skeleton Hunter with new features like custom button mapping. PC games need this because players might have foreign keyboards, nonstandard gamepads, or disabilites that make the default controls unusable. Mine works like the PC version of Skullgirls where every action has both a keyboard key and a gamepad button, and you can assign them one by one or all at once. Please try it and tell me if the menus work the way you expect them to.

Upside-down Compositions – Pixivision

Upside-down Compositions – pixivision

When you see a picture with a person upside-down, reality might be broken somehow. Maybe the room is constructed upside-down. Maybe a character isn’t falling downwards for some reason. It’s probably just a reflection anyway. I unsubscribed from dozens of my RSS feeds until I could clear my 2,500-item RSS backlog. One of the survivors is pixivision, formerly pixiv Spotlight.

Illustrations where characters are upside-down or where the background is inverted are called upside-down compositions. There’s no doubt about the fact that you’re gonna be curious about these extraordinary compositions, and will wonder “what exactly is portrayed here?”. These compositions have a light, carefree feeling to them, and will make you want to float along with the characters in them.

This time we collected a number of upside-down compositions, that will make your head turn (or you can just flip your smartphone or PC screen!). Enjoy!

Yes, I'm spelling pixiv with a lowercase P now. And just like last time I posted a pixivision article (then called pixiv Spotlight), I'm presenting this image the way it appears in my RSS feed, or at least how it used to before the format changed a little bit. I have no idea what this illustration's title translates to. Clicking the image will take you to the pixivision post.

Hitstun and DALL·E 2 – Me Playing Chess in No Game No Life

I tried to make a model of myself based on the closest celebrity lookalike I know, Ashton Kutcher, and adjusting it so it looks kinda like me in non-realistic styles. Dalle2Anime on Twitter gave me great tips for key words and including an artist name. I’ve had previous success in 2-step uncropping to make good-looking faces and I went with that approach again.

I originally wanted my character floating in the air because it’s me and I think Floating Is Fun, DALL·E 2 kept ignoring parts of my prompts, and it would always crop part of the character’s head out of the top of the image. After a lot of trial and error that cost too much money, I came to grips with DALL·E 2’s limitations on details. I settled for a chess game which makes sense in No Game No Life context anyway.

Here’s an earlier attempt in Tales of Vesperia style.
