All I'm Saying Is That Mike Finally Deserves A Breakdown In Season Five

Micky: barely any tea, just basically a cup of pearls. He giggles nearly every time he takes a drink

Davy: orders a simple brown sugar and vanilla milk tea and rests the straw against his lips as he talks with his sunglasses pushed up on his head, looking for all the world like a pin up.

Peter: mixing all the flavors together “I’m going to make a rainbow!” Shakes it up. “Oh well now it’s just brown :(.”

Mike: takes one sip. “That’s disgusting.” Pours the rest in Micky’s overflowing cup.

Okay okay okay, but what if instead of picture books Eddie reads the Lord of the Rings because he… can’t not. And Steve never knew how funny it is. Eddie does all the voices and Steve actually starts getting into all these books Eddie loves because he’s just so excited about them.

dyslexic steve harrington who is also an insomniac and eddie decides to start reading him bedtime stories. he is against it at first but secretly it’s like his favorite thing every day. partly because the pictures and the way eddie tells the stories, but partly because no one had ever cared enough to try and help him like that before.

What if—

Steve Harrington has an audio processing disorder and that's why he was staring at Eddie's lips in the Upside Down? Like, he certainly doesn't mind staring, because they're attractive lips. But also, it wasn't initially due to infatuation or flirting.

And then, when everything is over, him and Eddie hang out a lot. And Eddie notices that Steve still stares at his lips—like a good 99% of the time. So he just leans in and kisses Steve.

And Steve like blue screens, essentially. Like that's his moment of realization? It's not like he wasn't aware of his feelings for Eddie, but he didn't realize how badly he wanted them to kiss. But now that it's happened, he has even more of a reason to keep staring at Eddie's lips. (Even though it definitely doesn't help that he stops listening and processing whatever Eddie's saying, because he just wants to kiss so bad. So Steve has to kiss Eddie every once in a while to shut him up and then ask for him to start over. And Eddie isn't bothered by this, just rolls his eyes and fakes annoyance.)

(This is brought to you by the fact that I stare at everybody's lips and yeah, sometimes I want a kiss. But also, what the fuck are you saying? I have to know.)

tw: meantions of alcohol and addiction

Mike used to drink. It was a problem. It was a habit he picked up from his dad that got worse after moving to California. before he met the guys, he was on his own, struggling and homeless. He didn’t drink constantly, rather when things were going bad, he’d stay out until the bar closed.

After the Monkees all moved in together, he tried to hide it, but they caught on pretty quick. Davy had sat him down and said that this was something he didn’t have to (and shouldn’t) face alone. They helped get into a support group and found that it was easier to substitute the alcohol for something else whenever Mike wanted it. Coke-a-Cola seemed to do the trick. That’s how the Monkees came to having Coke in the house at all times. Some weeks they would sacrifice groceries to buy it because Mike being healthy was the most important thing to them.

Now they are all sworn off of alcohol. None of them drink. Sometimes Mike feels like falling into old habits, especially after a harrowing adventure, but he looks around at the guys to remind himself he’s not in that place anymore, he is okay and doesn’t need the old habits, he has new ones. Then he’ll sit down and noodle on the guitar or play around with the boys. He knows they all have each other’s backs.
