Soul (2020)

I do love this painting by Alexandre Cabanel, “The Fallen Angel”, based on Milton’s poem “Paradise Lost”.

Alexandre Cabanel was 24 years old when he painted L'Ange Dechu (The Fallen Angel) in 1847.⁣⁣

The shielding of his facial expression doesn’t hide his feelings. It is at the same time poetical and tragic, fallen from grace and banished by God. 

But what holds me the most are the eyes, full of vengeance and anger.

This handsome fallen devil is a tragic and sublime representation of beauty, we could love him and pity him. The sculptural body sporting a six-pack is simply divine, the archetype of ancient beauty (nevertheless fallen from heaven, condemn to disgrace…)

Either he is a medieval French plague doctor with anomalous properties who knows something we don’t, or he’s a medieval French plague doctor with anomalous properties who is completely deluded with medieval notions of disease and medicine, trying to help humanity but ending up killing large numbers of it and transmuting the corpses into mindless, mutated drones. Hell, it could be both at this point. Whatever he is, all signs point to him being originally human. That mask and those robes friggin’ grew out of him. They’s attached! And… well, there is some silliness. For reasons. There honestly aren’t enough wholesome/humorous SCP entities. Or at least some that specifically do not promise to try and kill off large chunks of life on Earth.
