it’s always been fascinating to me how things can be simultaneously true and false, how people can be good and bad all in one, how someone can love you in a way that is beautifully selfless while serving themselves ruthlessly

She was right. I was hiding. And I wasn’t yet ready to stop. So I put everything I was feeling into the music. And once I did… that song… just… worked. I mean, that’s how it was back then. We had to do everything ourselves. We put it out on a tiny label and hand-delivered copies to every DJ we knew. God, it was fun! Suddenly Bernie and I were doing four shows a night. In the Midtown clubs where the mainstreams danced. The roller discos in Central Jersey. All we had to do was play two songs, and people lost their minds. But we always ended our nights back at “Better Days.” They knew what the song was really about. I may not have been comfortable enough yet to dance with her… But making music together, making everyone else dance, it was the next best thing.

Jane Austen was really out there 200 years ago writing lines like “If I loved you less, I might be able to talk about it more” that to this day are still so swoon-worthy.

"Were you in love with him?'
'Yes,' I say, simply. James and I put each other through the kind of reckless passions Gwendolyn once talked about, joy and anger and desire and despair. After all that, was it really so strange? I am no longer baffled or amazed or embarrassed by it. 'Yes, I was.' It's not the whole truth. The whole truth is, I'm in love with him still"
~ M.L. Rio, If We Were Villains
Harry smiled, relieved. “OK,” he said. “It’s me and you.” “Me and you, true blue.”
