“Labyrinth” 1986 Jennifer Connelly
The realism of Robby being a little bit of an unintentional misogynist is so, so important to me. Like he is a good boss and a great teacher, he is friends with women and works with women and teaches women and respects women greatly. And yet—it’s Langdon, and then Whitaker, who Robby adopts as his mentees. It’s David, not the girls on the kill list, who Robby prioritizes care for. It’s the dad accused of grooming his daughter who Robby refuses to report, while informing the authorities about the mother drugging him without a second thought. He reams Langdon out for berating Santos, but doesn’t check in on Santos until Langdon refuses to let it go and Robby becomes suspicious of there being an actual problem.
And obviously we are seeing Robby on the worst day of life, and maybe even calling him a “little bit of a misogynist” is a bit too much because he’s not, really. But he does have ingrained biases and he does seem to only be able to fully see himself in and completely empathize with other men. And that is just. So true of even the nicest, kindest, most wonderful and feminist men I know.

As a med student i have met women like Dr Mckay and women like Dr Shamsi and many in between, and you learn way more from the first ones
okay but javadi and mckay are so important. mckay is exactly what dr. shamsi doesn’t want javadi to be, but she’s also the woman the javadi finds comfort in during her shift. javadi gets more confident because she’s being watched over by mckay.
like imagine her actually babysitting harrison. the only hard rule is that harrison can’t do anything stupid enough to end up in the hospital but other than that, “there’s a 20 on the counter for a pizza, knock yourselves out.” in comparison to victoria’s mom not even trusting her enough to watch her cousins at family gatherings.
mckay trusts in victoria’s intelligence and it’s that trust that allows her to teach and guide her. i want them to have a cute sisterly relationship
The thing i love the most about shows with second hand embarrassment kind of humor, like the office, the rehersal or nathan for you, is that, apart from finding them hilarious, they help deal with uncomfortable and embarrassing situations in my daily life, like If I trip down the street while listening to music and people are watching or if some weird guy shouts something inappropriate at me in the metro, im just like, “this is reality tv they are filming me and watching this must be so funny”, so i’ll just laugh at everything
