It’s been said many times before, but the ease and speed with which the x files swings from “oh my god this show is incredible” to “what in the everloving fuck did I just watch” is truly unmatched

I really do think it’s just… ironic and depressing that despite how much CC clearly believed he took the Worst Elements out of his conspiracy theory basis for stuff (being the antisemitism, racism and white supremacy stuff) that, on the “spectrum” of UFOlogy and related beliefs, the mytharc still falls hard on the side of what you’d call “dark sider” lore of the Doty-and-Lear variety from the 70s and 80s. Which on one hand kind of figures for a show that’s noir-to-horror as much as it’s anything else, but I wonder if the desire to cling to that is a part of why there’s just barely any effort put into trying to reckon with a lot of even the most basic details around shadow governments and eugenics.
