On Tuesday morning, Donald Trump released an anti-transgender tirade of a speech on his social media website Truth Social, outlining a genocidal plan against all transgender existence in the United States. Everyone on the right from mainstream Republicans to hardcore neo-Nazis are celebrating the video while Democrats and legacy news media outlets have so far largely ignored it. “So this is what we are up against,” tweeted legislative researcher and pro-transgender activist Erin Reed. She continues, “a national transgender ban in 2024. This is what they are planning. DeSantis is practicing this through executive actions in Florida. Trump is openly saying he will do the same.” This is unambiguously genocidal territory. Holocaust museums have warned that this rising anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric mirrors the hate that led up to the rise of Nazi Germany.

This post confession from Cochlear Implant user, in contrast to happy first time CIs videos. Its true because I have talked to CI users Deaf youth yesterday while waiting to meet Pope Francis at the Embassy.  They did mentioned about having bad headaches and the sensory is very painful. So they ended up not wearing them anymore. Doctors/Audiologists “best recommendations” CIs is about busine$$ which it disgusts me. Another person wear hearing aids like me but I don’t wear them anymore cuz it doesn’t work for me to be able to hear so he said prefer hearing aids over CIs cuz it’s cheaper plus less risk over expensive cochlear implants and more likely high risks. In my opinion, hearing aids or CIs doesn’t cure for deafness.

I see people elsewhere comment about how "polite disagreements are healthy to debate" but I just want to put my foot down on one thing.

Whether pineapple belongs on pizza is a debate, and someone saying they are not in favour of it is a disagreement. Whether trans rights are human rights is not a debate, and someone saying trans people should not have basic rights, even if they do so with all of the decorum and politeness in their words, is not a disagreement. It is violence.

Pro Tip: The Way You End a Sentence Matters

Here is a quick and dirty writing tip that will strengthen your writing.

In English, the word at the end of a sentence carries more weight or emphasis than the rest of the sentence. You can use that to your advantage in modifying tone.

Consider:

In the end, what you said didn't matter.

It didn't matter what you said in the end.

In the end, it didn't matter what you said.

Do you pick up the subtle differences in meaning between these three sentences?

The first one feels a little angry, doesn't it? And the third one feels a little softer? There's a gulf of meaning between "what you said didn't matter" (it's not important!) and "it didn't matter what you said" (the end result would've never changed).

Let's try it again:

When her mother died, she couldn't even cry.

She couldn't even cry when her mother died.

That first example seems to kind of side with her, right? Whereas the second example seems to hold a little bit of judgment or accusation? The first phrase kind of seems to suggest that she was so sad she couldn't cry, whereas the second kind of seems to suggest that she's not sad and that's the problem.

The effect is super subtle and very hard to put into words, but you'll feel it when you're reading something. Changing up the order of your sentences to shift the focus can have a huge effect on tone even when the exact same words are used.

In linguistics, this is referred to as "end focus," and it's a nightmare for ESL students because it's so subtle and hard to explain. But a lot goes into it, and it's a tool worth keeping in your pocket if you're a creative writer or someone otherwise trying to create a specific effect with your words :)
