The 11th annual international gender census, collecting information about the language we use to refer to ourselves and each other, is now open until 13th June 2024.
It’s short and easy, about 5 minutes probably.
After the survey is closed I’ll process the results and publish a spreadsheet of the data and a report summarising the main findings. Then anyone can use them for academic or business purposes, self-advocacy, tracking the popularity of language over time, and just feeling like we’re part of a huge and diverse community.
If you think you might have friends and followers who’d be interested, please do reblog this blog post, and share the survey URL by email or at AFK social groups or on other social networks. Every share is extremely helpful - it’s what helped us get 40,000 responses last year.
Survey URL: https://survey.gendercensus.com
The survey is open to anyone anywhere who speaks English and feels that the gender binary doesn’t fully describe their experience of themselves and their gender(s) or lack thereof.
For the curious, you can also spy on some graphs and demographic data for the incoming responses here.
Thank you so much!

So my sister wants to start sewing more, because
a. She’s 5′ 11″ and can never find pants long enough for her legs or shirts long enough for her arms.
b. She hates synthetic fibers as much as I do and it’s difficult to find natural fiber clothes that aren’t made of cotton
c. She’s a biologist and would physically fistfight microplastics if given half a chance
So her gift from mom and dad for her birthday was a sewing machine. Not a super expensive one but a good solid serviceable one.
And recently she asked “So where do I GET wool or linen and thread that isn’t polyester” and mom was like ‘go ask your sister’
And I, of course, crashed into the group text like “GET A PEN I HAVE WEBSITES FOR U” and honestly I’m thrilled about this
Yeeeees, correct. I'm glad you remember, I simply will never bookmark anything
Au where Jack Drake found Tim was Robin and forced him to quit before Jason could attack him at Titans tower so Jason becomes Tim’s nanny to torture him instead.
Because honestly what would be worst to Tim, almost getting beaten to Death or having 24hr responsible supervision and a Curfew.
Here's the thing, occasionally I want a boyfriend. Like I wanna be kissed, I wanna kiss someone, it's so much fun to make out and cuddle and talk shit, yk? But like. It's a lot of effort to form a new relationship like that, and I don't really want it with any of my friends. Or, at least, any of my friends who aren't straight. One of them is a very classic 'good boy' and I've been a bit in love with him for a while, but I can never make a move because he doesn't like men. So, whatever. I'll forget about it and stop caring for a bit soon, but right now I'd like to do a bit of kissing and heavy petting, yk?
I think bringing up "it/its" pronouns is a good test for people who claim to be "trans allies" because it so easily weeds out the people who are only doing it superficially. I've seen so many people who will post "Punch your local TERF #transrightsarehumanrights" and then turn around and be like "If someone says they go by 'it/its' pronouns it's actually good to misgender them because they're just teenager trenders"
Tim: Here’s a list of suspects I’ve put together so far.
Bruce: Tim, your name’s on this list.
Tim: I don’t remember where I was last Friday night, Bruce. Therefore, I have no alibi. I’ve been tailing myself for the past three days.
saw a video that was like “everybody comment what you did today so we can see how everyone experienced something different” and the comments have me tearing up on this train. what the fuckkkk. the human experience
Maybe. Perhaps. We should all just start giving each other dumb trinkets we find on the street like crows, ever think about that one?
Me: I'm normal
Also me: *makes a slideshow about male sexual assault and how we really don't talk about it enough and how in media it's frequently glossed over or made into a joke, and uses DC comics as one of my literary examples and talks for half an hour about it while still leaving some bits out* ...
The other four people in the class: ...
My teacher: yeah that deserves an A
Especially because comics don't care either lol, comic writers are just professional fans playing with their Barbies and acting out soap operas like seven year old girls. No one is "yes, and"-ing, they're all " well actually" and "but what if--"-ing.
I love comics, they're like fanfic but socially acceptable!
“that’s not accurate to the comics!!” I couldn’t care less, these r my dolls and I will do whatever I want to them, i’m playing house goddamnit!! lemme live in my delusions!! It’s called feeding ur inner child!!!
