“You’re wasting your time,” you say wryly, as the men cuff your wrists behind your back and put a blindfold around your head. They ignore you and roughly shove you to the ground instead. You land on your shoulder hard, biting your lip to hold back a cry of pain, and try to sit back up.

“Shut up,” you hear one of them hiss in your face, his rancid breath making you almost gag.

“He’s not going to come for me,” you continue defiantly, “the only reason Renjun married me is because of my father’s connections. Now that my dad is dead, you’re basically handing him a get-out-of-jail-free card by kidnapping me.” 

He doesn’t tell you to shut up again, instead opting to slap you across your face with so much force that you fall back to the ground again. Your cheek throbs, and your eyes involuntarily fill with tears. 

“We need a gag. Bitch doesn’t know when to stop yappin’,” he snarls. 

“M-Maybe she’s right, boss,” you hear another voice nervously say, “Huang Renjun is untouchable.” 

“You dipshits are really that scared of him?” the leader questions mockingly. 

“No, no, sir! It’s just,” one of the lackeys clears his throat, “―just that Huang Renjun has never been defeated before. He’s infamous for sacrificing his own men if need be. What’s to say it’s not the same with his family?” 

You know it’s true. Renjun has made that abundantly clear by the way he looks at you and treats you, but it still stings to hear it said aloud like that.

Persistent fratboys at parties are the absolute worst. Already early into the night, you find yourself unable to shake off the latest leech in all his snapback and rayban glory. Why is it that they never back off until you’re forced to lie about a significant other? If you’re lucky, they’ll stop there. It’s quite stupid how they’ll let you go only if you suddenly have a boyfriend, rather than simply understanding that you aren’t interested. Perhaps, they’re too scared to confront how undesirable they actually are.

Literally, nobody wants someone who owns salmon shorts and more button up shirts with palm trees than necessary. Never mind the fact that you’ve seen this guy participate in more forties at four than actually attend his classes sober if he even makes it to your shared A.I. ethics lecture at eight in the morning. And he’s wearing those god awful sperry boat shoes with no socks. Inwardly, you shiver.

Eyes flitting around, you desperately try to see if you can find any one of your friends nearby who can take you out of your misery, but Yeji and Yerim are already mixed in the drunken dancing crowd, and you can’t find Donghyuck or Jeno anywhere. Renjun had been standing with you prior, but he already went home a few minutes ago because he had midterms early tomorrow morning. However, perhaps Lady Luck understands your woes because you spot your best friend coming out of the kitchen.

You quickly grab his arm, pulling Jaemin over. “Sorry, I’m here with him already.”

“This is your boyfriend?” the guy asks skeptically, unabashedly staring at your friend in question.

“Yep. Yes, that’s him. My boyfriend. Love of my life. My other half. His name is Jaemin.”

Jaemin turns to look at you, somewhat confused. You try to send some sort of telepathic message to him, and to your relief, it seems that he understands when you shoot him a look of mixed panic and desperation.

“Yeah, that’s me. I’m the boyfriend. The super significant other.” He reconfirms your answer and returns the male’s stare, giving him an enthusiastic thumbs up.

Renjun: It hits him all at once. A train arriving at a station you long thought was abandoned. A sudden accident on a deserted highway. Renjun was existing happily, quietly, before you came along. Before you brought with you this wave of emotion that threatened to disturb his calm universe. It’s too much, he thinks. It’s too cliche. To be young and in love. He hides it from you–in gentle teasing and subtext. Tucking away his I love you’s in the playful insults he bats towards you with a soft smile. Listen closely and you will hear the words you know are hiding behind the golden browns of his eyes. Lend an ear and you will find the teasing sounds a lot like “I love you” when you’re held tightly in his arms. 

Jeno: He builds a home for you inside of himself. Inside of his heart. And there you reside surrounded by the walls of his love, a blanket of stars overhead twinkling their affections down upon you. “Do you need anything?” He asks, “Do you want anything? Can I help you?” The half-moon crescents of his night brown eyes shine their love and hope upon you in those words. Do you need anything. Do you need anything at all, Jeno will provide. Just say the words. Speak them into his ears, into his soul. He will give you the sun and moon to see you smile. He will pluck the clouds from the sky, pull the stars from the heavens and wrap them up in the warmth of his love for your pleasure. Jeno will do all of this for you, simply because he loves you.

Jaemin: For some love is a gentle whisper on a cool breeze. For others it’s the taste of honey on your lips–sweet and sticky, dripping in the heat of summer. For Jaemin love is a tsunami. He is Poseidon on the seas, riding the torrential waves of the emotions inside of himself. They roil up like a flood in his soul and instead of cowering in fear, he lets it carry him towards you. You are washed in the flood of his love, a sickly sweet shower of affection and words that pour forth from him endlessly. Are you overwhelmed, my love?
