“See,” Todd pointed up at the sky, the pavement cool against his back, “we’ll all end up there one day.”
Neil frowned, turning his gaze from the boy up to the sky. “Where? The stars?”
Todd nodded excitedly, his hand falling back down to intertwine with Neil’s. The same shock, the same butterflies, the same smile, and it never ever got old. “Yep, after, you know, my mom says so anyway.”
Neil hummed, the sky wasn’t very full tonight. “There’s so much space between each one though.”
He laughed, “course there is, needs space for all of us, don’t it?”
Neil pondered that for a moment, “our stars have to be close together.”
Todd turned to him, his lips quirked just slightly, “don’t like being lonely?”
He smiled, watching his fingers trace patterns on Todd’s arm before looking up, “don’t like being without you.”
