Preach... ππ» I love Angeline with all my heart, but the books never really did her justice. She was a crucial part of the first book but then she just vanished once she was "cured" - which never sat right with me... call me grumpy, but I don't like the idea that magic can cure something so deeply rooted in the chemistry of the mind as mental illnesses (plural because I really don't think Angeline was simply depressed, the symptoms she exhibits in the first book feel really indicative of bipolar disorder and also schizophrenia). Only in my dreams is her struggle with mental health explored in later books... And TAC is absolute trash imo because it's a huge missed opportunity for more Artemis and Angeline bonding, acknowledging the trauma they both went through during Tim's disappearance... But, we got nothing. It really makes me SO mad to see that the most prominent thing the fowldom has retained from Angeline is the "randomosity" shirt and think of her as some superficial helpless mobwife Γ©.Γ¨ When Angeline's actually Artemis' most acute emotional and moral compass right beside Butler. So many fics that I otherwise enjoyed annoy me to no end with their portrayal of Angeline.
I'd have so much more to say about my darling, but I don't have the clarity of mind right now to expose all my thoughts in a comprehensible way (all my brain screams right now is FOOD. NOW) but I may come back to it later.
Angeline Fowl is the protagonistβs mother. She is also a wife. She is also crazy. This is basically the extent of what we learn about Angeline in the first book and she doesnβt substantially develop throughout the course of the series. Angeline represents two common tropes in fiction, the mother and the madwoman. While AF is undeniably a fantasy series, it is still rooted in our contemporary world, and so it is not unreasonable to expect a certain level of realism when depicting its mental illness or when depicting its secondary characters, in general. It's just so frustrating that Colfer really opened up such a big can of worms and then did nothing with it, or for that matter, her. :/
βοΈ Breakfast in 1994 βοΈ Just a chill morning at the staff kitchen in Fowl Manor π It's been a while since I've drawn our dear Butler. The truth is @iesnoth's design is so perfect to me that I really struggle to come up with something that feels true to him and also like my own thing. It's still a bit of a work in progress but I do like this version :) Also even though the lighting is completely off, I'm still proud of the stained-glass window β¨ I've never really done intricate background details before, but I've developed the firm headcanon that Fowl Manor is overflowing with Art Nouveau/Art DΓ©co architectural nods and so I just had to get out of my comfort zone.
Anyhoo. Look, they are happy π₯°
Been workshopping Hollyβs outfits (I believe she only owns two) (yes she has a tail somehow, donβt ask it was 2 AM when I did this)
Another day at the office⦠Or when Foaly ropes Holly into his shenanigans.
Thoughts and prayers for this poor anonymous LEP sprite officer who might suffer a very permanent death if he fails at keeping a straight face
cons of being home alone with angina as an adult : you have to make your hot tea, meals yourself + still do all the fronddamn chores pros of being home alone with angina as an adult : you can take the saucepan in bed and eat an entire can of cassoulet by yourself while watching Taiwanese horror movies and no one is going to stop you

Smol Artemis sketches π€
Been experimenting with new brushes, now it looks much closer to my actual trad art style. Thatβs nice π
β¨β½ΰΌβΌ Fairy Ring β½ΰΌβΌβ¨ It's been too long since I had the time to draw my favorite lil gremlin. A somewhat-confirmed-but-still-a-bit-of-an-headcanon I've always had is that Artemis has pretty much always been obsessed with fairies - obsessed, as in reading all the books and resources he can find on the topic, filling notebooks upon notebooks with sketches, paintings and scientific observations, composing entire symphonies on banshees and various magical creatures... ... and also, willing to spend entire days observing the fairy ring he found inside Fowl estate's woods hoping to find an actual fairy. Here, he's found a dragonfly (as a nod to Pan's Labyrinth), that seems to be strangely glowing, and he is very happy in his mischievous way π Do not worry, the dragonfly was left unscathed - Artemis tried to capture it, failed (ending up covered in mud after splatting face-first in the grass like the athlete he is), went to the manor to ask Butler to help, was thoroughly chewed out by both Butler and his parents for disappearing for hours, and was ultimately sent to take a warm bath after spending an entire afternoon soaking wet in the rain. He did catch a cold, and was very upset that he might have had the chance to capture a tiny fairy but let it slip. Just be patient, Arty π (Now, is the dragonfly actually magical or not ? I had fun playing with a surreal lighting to left it open to interpretation π§ββοΈ)
