Thinking about the family dynamics in IWTV. Lestat and Claudia's relationship obviously mirrors that mother daugther relationship where the mother secretly resents the daughter for capatalizing her husbands attention. People say Louis and Claudia's relationship mirrors the mom who constantly chooses her partners over you but thats not true. Louis and Claudia's relationship is that of the father who keeps dating women that hate his kids and antagonizes them and he refuses to see it. He also plays the role of the emotionally stunted father that forces his daughter to mother him because he is basically incapable of being a functional human being particularly in season 2.
Obviously these are two queer men. But one of them having the motherly or fatherly role in their fucked up family dynamic is less of who is the man or woman in the relationship and moreso who best mirrors these well established family dynamics. Atleast to me. In short justice for Claudia she deserved to take a gun to both of them.
louis staying with the man who orchestrated the murder of his daughter for over 70 years just to spite his ex-husband and lestat deciding to let louis find out on his own about his new husband trying to kill him, breaking his own heart and torturing himself in the process too, just so he could say ‘see I was right’ 70 years later,, this is the toxic obsessive failmarriage representation we deserve
