free my girl she did all that shit but the fandom is mischaracterizing her for it
some fan attitudes about jason todd's morality are insane. no I don't condone murder in real life. but he's not??? a real person???? most importantly he's operating in a fictional reality where rehabilitation is proven impossible, imprisonment has proven impossible, and single individuals are responsible for more deaths than anybody since the fucking nazis. obviously he's in the right. if anything, bruce, who I should agree with since I think murder is wrong, gives the weakest fucking argument in utrh against murder. like utrh told this truly incredible story about a boy's irreparably damaged relationship with his father and positioned us to make a truly gorgeous point where the villain is both right and wrong and the hero both is right and wrong and then it fucked up bc batman isn't right!!! it isn't about his own personal inability to control himself, or at least it shouldn't be!!! but that's how it was positioned so it came across as jason todd is obviously right and honestly yeah the joker should die. there is no other in-universe option bc the joker cannot get better and he cannot be kept away from harming people. jason's been through a lot of writers since then and at first he's an outright ultra-violent villain who hates the batfam and later he's a tortured anti-hero with complicated familial relationships and idk whatever like. I'm not examining him through the lens of my actual real life opinions on whether or not you should kill people or whether or not I support the death penalty, and neither should you. he's a character in one of the most convoluted stories ever told and he needs to be treated as such, both in a doylist fashion (he's been written by real people who have differing opinions on what's morally correct and what makes someone a villain and who might not necessarily have the best grip on what makes murder wrong in a philosophical argument) and in a watsonian fashion (his worldview is shaped by extreme violence that is a cycle with no end in sight and that cycle has more to do with bruce and jason's relationship than it does the joker) and a combined fashion (the cycle will never end bc comic books need to keep using the same tensions over and over again and if bruce and jason resolve their differences jason's character will no longer serve its current narrative purpose and besides even if he did change another writer will just bring him back to whatever's most familiar and convenient for them and their story so meanwhile jason has to make the same exact choice to leave the joker alive and hate bruce for it and bruce can't truly communicate with jason bc the writers need to keep the story going in perpetual limbo). anyway none of this is readable but basically what I'm saying is that when I say I think jason's right for killing people yeah I mean it in that I think it's hot but also I mean it in that narratively it makes sense for him to see the world this way and it makes sense in universe for him to believe there is no better option for villains other than death. like. irl obviously a vigilante running around killing people would be bad (nevermind that jason isn't using guns rn specifically to avoid killing people accidentally or impulsively) but this isn't irl, it's a story, and I'm judging it on the merits of what kind of story it's trying to tell. and also I think jason killing people is hot.
meet penis from my new cartoon "steamboat penis" where the titular character penis pilots a boat shaped like a penis right into some sharp rocks killing himself and all other 42 passengers on board
A lot of pop psychology gets thrown around and since I already have a headache, here's preventing you lot from making it worse.
Love-bombing: A manipulation tactic of increasing affection and grand gestures before or after doing something abusive, specifically to weasel one's way out of consequences.
What it is not: A streak of affection and generosity towards friends/loved ones.
Trauma-bonding: Knowingly traumatizing someone to take advantage of their vulnerable state, to then act like the "hero" or the one who cheers them up.
What it is not: Bonding over similar traumas.
Gaslighting: *Knowingly* convincing someone they cannot trust their own perception of a situation in pursuit of one's own narrative.
What it is not: Misaligned perception of events.
Narcissist: Someone afflicted with Narcissistic Personality Disorder, a traumagenic cluster B disorder, that struggles with self-obsession, paranoia, craving validity from the public, delusions of grandeur, and social disconnection.
It is not: Your rubbish ex that cheated on you.
Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.

im so normal about hobie
i definitely dont think abt him every passing moment
I cope using humor okay ššš
You know, if Spider Punk gets people interested in punk, good. We all have to start somewhere and Hobie is a damn good representation. If he is what makes a person goĀ āhey, this seems cool, I should check it out.ā good. Thatās one more person interested in punk and wanting to get into it.Ā
That being said, if you are new to punk(hi baby punks!) some things to keep in mind
1. Punk philosophy is largely anti-authoritarian. Individual and even punk communities differ on specifics, and some are more political than others, but the core themes tend to be resisting those who would control and oppress us, and supporting and including people in your community
2. Punk fashion SHOULD NOT BE EXPENSIVE. A lot of fashion companies will try and sell you jackets for a couple hundred bucks, but thatās just corporations trying to cash in on a subculture. A big part of Punk and its history is DIY because Punk should be open to everyone and putting that behind a fashion paywall is just not punk. You donāt even need to be dressing punk to BE punk, but thrift your clothes. Make stencils and use spray paint or bleach to give it a pattern. Use old jeans to make patches. Buy your spikes and studs in bulk and go wild. Turn your old t shirt that doesnāt fit anymore into a back patch. Go crazy with some safety pins. You can make more with $30 than you can buy from a designer for $300. And skill is not needed, frankly if it looks a little wonky it makes it look more punk
3. Dental floss makes for good thread for sewing on patches. Itās good for thick, stylistic stitches and is both cheap and durable. Donāt know why I made this its own point but itās one of the most common tricks for punk DIY besides taking paint to scraps of fabric to make a patch. Honestly, if you want to know how to do more, just ask other punks how they made their vests and jackets, theyāll probably be happy enough to tell you
4. Punk philosophy and music is closely related. The communities evolved around the music scene so it is closely linked. Give some punk bands a try if you havenāt already. Thereās a bunch of subgenres so youāll probably find something you like. From OGĀ āproto punkā where the sound was still developing into what we call punk, to pop punk, anarco punk, and folk punk. There are people who say you canāt be punk if you donāt listen to the music, and thereās a whole conversation to be had about all that, but itās just a good idea to try listening to some punk music
5, Nazis fuck off
6. Seriously, nazis fuck off. Thereās a whole history behind it and why we associate skinhead punks with neo nazis. Largely weāve made it clear we donāt want nazis in our community and the street punk music scene that nazi punks became associated with has made strides to separate themselves from that.
7. Be cool and respectful of people regardless of religion, ethnicity, race, sexuality, gender, background, etc. Solidarity with our community is important and all sorts are welcome. Gatekeeping isnāt cool and frankly women and minorities have done a lot for punk as a whole. Respect for everyone
DRAGONS!!!
Dear video essay creators. A video analysis is when you analyze a piece of media. No no look at me. A summary, no matter how thorough, is not an analysis. An analysis requires you to draw conclusions about the media such as authorial intent, real-world parallels, discussion about themes/worldbuilding/character motivation, and so much more. You have to stop summarizing something and saying thatās analysis. The Gaylors are doing more critical analysis than you. Is that who you want to lose to? The gaylors?
