Gem Cities by Neave Bozorgi

This is Ashley Green, an Alvin Ailey dancer. I've been following her on Instagram for about a year now, eagerly anticipating each studio session or performance clip she shares. There is something truly special about witnessing an artist in their creative zone. This clip is a perfect example of that for me. Ashley dances in a way that resonates with me on so many levels. Her stage presence feels authentic and free. Every time she dances, she tells a story, and I am sat each and every time.

Against White Feminism, Notes on Disruption

This book found me at an important time. I've found that mainstream feminism, advocated for by white women, doesn't always consider the experiences and needs of women of color. Which begs the question, if you claim to want justice and parity for all women, why does your brand of feminism only benefit women that look like you? This led me to explore the origins of feminism and its relevance to women of color, which prompted me to pick up this book on a trip to the bookstore one afternoon. I am so glad that I did! I would argue that this book is essential reading for anyone interested in feminism, whether new to the topic or well-versed in women's studies.  It has the power to educate and engage with new feminists, while also challenging those who consider themselves established feminists. That's the point of it. The author wants us to do exactly that, challenge ourselves to rethink and dismantle what we thought we had figured out. I plan to revisit this book. There were so many points that I resonated with and learned a lot from. Overall I rate this book an 8/10!!
