aight time for angst with the one piece boys
luffy:
oh poor baby )): its reminds him a lot about what happened with ace. he’s losing someone else that is important to him. he couldn't save you. he failed. he wasn't strong enough.
luffy watched in slow motion as you fall to the ground, his eyes wide in shock. he couldn't even move, couldn't even speak. you weren't getting up. you were just laying there, motionless. your opponent, a pirate captain, was laughing. he towers over your body, a twisted smile on his face, his eyes full of glee.
in less than a second luff punched him so hard he went flying. who knows if he’s dead or not, luffy didn't care. he rushes over to you, dropping to his knees and scooping you in his arms. blood. so much blood. his body trembles, fear rising inside him. his heart beats so loud in his ears.
‘oi, (y/n), wake up! wake up!’ he begs, his voice cracking. you don't respond to him. you weren't even breathing. ‘(y/n), come on!’
this can't be happening. you shouldn't be on the ground like this, bleeding out. you should be smiling and laughing and offering him meat like always. tears blur his eyes, sliding down his cheeks. his throat constricts painfully. something was clawing up his throat.
‘chopper! chopper where are you!’ he yells out for the little reindeer, hoping that he could save you. but your body was growing cold in his arms.
why was this happening? he was supposed to be strong, he was supposed to protect everyone. so why? why did this have to happen. luffy was cracking and soon he shatters.
the thing crawling up his throat was finally set loose. a heart wrenching scream pierces the air, capturing the attention of their crew. it shook them to the core. their captain needed them. they finish up their battles and follow the sound of sobs ringing out in the air. what they find crushes them.
luffy was clutching you to his chest while he bangs his head repeatedly against the side of the building. blood runs down the side of his face and smears against the wall, but luffy doesn't care. he doesn't even register the physical pain, only the emotional wound and his shattered heart. he’s still screaming and sobbing.
zoro steps up, going over to his captain. he pulls luffy back so he stops hitting himself. luffy looks up at his first mate with teary eyes. his eyes land on chopper and he grows desperate.
‘chopper treat her, please!’ he holds out your body to him, begging him.
chopper was doing his best to hold back his tears. he shakes his head. ‘l-luffy...(y/n) is...(y/n) is...,” chopper couldn't even finish his sentence. he buries his face in robin’s leg, sobbing his heart out.
‘luffy, she’s’
‘don’t say it!’ luffy screams at zoro, cutting him off from finishing the sentence.
the crew can see the agony written all over their captain’s face it hurts them. sanji steps up this time. ‘luffy, we should take (y/n)-’
‘no!’ he holds you protectively against him, backing away from his nakama. ‘no one is taking her!’
it takes the combined efforts of zoro, sanji, and Franky to restrain luffy. he’s thrashing around, desperately trying to get you from robin who looks down at you sadly in her arms.
‘give her back! give her back!’ he wails. ‘I want her back!’
luffy soon tires himself from all the screaming and crying. zoro takes him back to the ship, everyone’s head bowed. when luffy wakes up again, he’s demanding to see you.
‘(y/n), where’s (y/n)!’
he breaks down again, holding his head and pulling at his hair. why, why did he have to go through this again? he’s going to be unstable for a while, and then he’ll be eerily quiet, and won't even eat. his crew will have to help him get back on his feet, but it won't be easy.
zoro:
“zoro!”
he whips his head around when you screamed, his eyes widening in horror as he sees the sword goes through your body. he quickly cuts down all the opponents surrounding you two and races over to you. blood was gushing from your wound and he tries to staunch the bloodflow as he’s seen chopper do, but the blood keeps pouring.
‘z-zoro...,’
‘save your breath.’ his response his curt. but he knew. zoro knew that you won't make it. he bites his lip, looking away from you. a palm rests against his cheek, gently turning his head to look at you. you're smiling. you're dying and yet you're smiling. he doesn't understand it.
‘I want to see your face,’ you whisper.
he stays with you, holding your hand against his cheek. it’s all you needed from him, just his presence. it made it easier to let go, knowing that zoro was here. and you left him with a broken heart. zoro doesn't love easy. when he loves someone, he loves them like they're his one and only. and now youre gone.
he takes in a shuddering breath, picking you up, cradling you close to his chest. he walks back to the ship where everyone agreed to meet up at. usopp was the first to notice him.
‘oi zoro what took you so long? did you get lost again? is that (y/n)-’ he freezes. ‘s-she’s bleeding.’
‘she’s dead.’ zoro says it straight, walking past his crew and going onto the ship.
he becomes much colder after your death. though it seems like he’s doing fine, he’s still napping, fighting fine, and drinking, it’s not the same. it never will be the same. he doesn't have you to nap with. he doesn't have you to train with. he doesn't have you to drink with.
he trains a lot more now. he berates himself for being weak, pushing himself more and more. more than once he fainted and chopper scolds him, but he always goes back to training. sanji had enough of his attitude and calls him out on it.
‘(y/n)-san wouldn't have wanted you to be this way!’
‘shut up!’ zoro heaves out. he couldn't bear to hear your name. he walks away.
when he drinks, he looks up at the stars at night. he doesn't believe in god or doesn't think about what's after death. but he idly wonders that if you are up there, are you watching him?
‘if you can’t nap with me anymore, at least visit me in my dreams,’ he mutters to no one, taking another swig of sake.
You were on watch duty when you heard his sniffles.
Looking down towards the sound, your heart shatters as you saw the straw hat angled backward as he looked towards the full moon, his red sleeve of his shirt coming up to wipe his tears, his hands gripping the balcony of the Sunny tightly.
At first, you're not sure if you should make your presence known, he came out here to be alone after all. But that thought passes quickly as you heard more of his shuttered breaths, you found yourself clamorying down the rope latter to get to him.
Luffy hears you coming behind him and breaks his gaze from the moon, for a moment the shock of you rushing towards him seems to break him from his sorrows. His face was still contorted in pain, his nose was running, but his eyes were wide and curious for what your next move would be. You didn't know either. For a moment, you could only stare at him.
You'd never seen your captain like this. He's normally so confident, strong, and goofy. He's your leader, your guide, your stability in the hardest of times. But now, he looked like a young boy, just a child. A child with his heart breaking. Pain knotted in your stomach when you saw him try to hide his tears, coming to the edge of the Sunny in the middle of the night where no one would see him. Zoro's words from so long ago suddenly rang in your head, "if you falter now, who can we trust?"
You stopped in front of him. The moment of shock passed and Luffy hid his face behind his straw hat, shielding his tears. You frowned, raising your hand and gently push the straw hat up further atop his head . His tears keep falling, his frown deepens, your heart aches. You gently wipe the tears from where they fall down his cheeks.
"I had a dream about Ace." He says and it's all he needs to say.
You open your arms for him and he dives in them. Somehow your knees had given out as you held each other, your cheek resting against Luffy's forehead as he cried into your shirt. His body shakes, his straw hat falls to the ship's wooden floor, his shuttered breaths disrupt the quiet night. You hope he cannot hear your heart breaking.
Your hands move in slow circles across his back, your hair falling down over his shoulder, your knees bending at his waist, trying to shield him from the world with every part of your body. You whisper comforting words into his ear, hoping the words go directly into the hole in his heart that his brother left behind.
You two stay in that position for a long time, even after his shuttered breaths become even and your shirt starts to dry. He still hides his face in your chest, you still rub circles across his back and whisper reassuring words. Minutes pass by and the stars in the night glitter above the Sunny.
Eventually Luffy slowly lifts head from your chest, looking you in the eyes and giving you a smile. A smile that immediately fills your heart with all the love, strength, and friendship he's shown you since you've known him. You can't help but smile back at him, wiping the last tear trail from his cheek. He sits up in a more upright position and thanks you. You shake your head, picking up the straw hat off the floor. Holding it in your hands gently, Luffy looks from the hat to you and back again.
"Don't hide, Luffy," you say, "Don't hide." From me, goes unspoken.
You pass him the straw hat and he puts it securely on his head, back where it belongs. He stands up and offers a hand to help you up, you take it and stand before him again. Your hands stay clasped together. The warmth of his hand radiating through your body. His free hand points towards the moon excitedly, pulling you closer towards the edge of the Sunny. Your shoulder is touching his.
"Ace loved the moon." He says looking back at you, "Wanna stay out here with me for awhile?"

I love the concept of Baratie not just bc it's a sea restaurant and that's cool but because their policy is the absolute antithesis of "the customer is always right." Oh you wanna be a jerk to the staff? Get decked, loser. Being terrible on a date? Congratulations, our sous chef will steal your girl. Ordered a wine that pairs badly? Ignored, we're picking a better one. It's like objectively the funniest way to run a restaurant and I can't stop thinking about it.
Zesty early 2000's Sanji please come back to me, the kids miss you.
these are literally the same picture
summary: luffy loving you through his five senses
a/n: look at that I actually wrote something lmaoo it’s been so long since I’ve done a proper fic. just something sweet with our rubber captain, hope y'all enjoy! (also what the fuck is that ending I dont know )
~~~
sight
Luffy never cared much for appearances nor did he look twice if anyone dressed up. It just wasn’t something important for him. What someone else wears doesn’t affects him in any way. They wear what they want and that was that. The rubber man doesn’t understand why Sanji or Nami would get mad at him when he doesn’t compliment you whenever you wore a dress or something that was different from your usual casual attire. You looked like you, what else was there? His confusion only earns him sighs from his nakama.
Though Luffy wasn’t one to give much thought to one’s appearances, one of the first things he noticed about you was your smile. Not only that, he’s always drawn to you whenever you smile, a lot like how he focuses on meat. He likes your smile. He doesn’t really have the words to describe it. He wasn’t like Robin who knows a lot of words and reads a lot. But what he can say is that when you smile, you’re happy and Luffy likes it when you’re happy. And when you smile wide and big, Luffy can’t help but be infected by your happiness and smile too.
Luffy always wants you to smile, but he knows that it takes a lot to smile all the time. Bad things happen that can take away your smile, so Luffy resolves to make you happy as much was possible. He wants you to be happy; you deserve to be happy.
“You like to look at (y/n) a lot, don’t you Captain?”
