My take on what happened on Driftmark

I am just endlessly frustrated by people on team green siting on social media and putting the blame of what happened on Driftmark squarely on Luke, a little boy that was probably 5 or 6, if not younger. And I am also talking about the books here, my point still stands, Luke was a child.

But if we are to simply talk about the show, as it is easier to analyse and it is what most people are talking about. Luke was, by all accounts, woken up by Baela and Rhaena, who told him that someone had stolen their mother's dragon. Yes, you can't really "steal" a dragon, but this was clearly a "in the heat of the moment" thing and the girls were probably really upset about the situation. Why wouldn't they be? Their mother had been buried like 12 hours earlier. No matter what, Luke follow Baela and Rhaena to wake Jace up and tell him what happened. Luke is the youngest of them, he will listen to them, especially Jace. Someone stole Vhagar? Sure, that is horrible, of course I will help to investigate. Jace agreed with Baela and Rhaena's version of things, so Luke agreed as well.

It has also been made clear that Luke doesn't like Aemond, a belief that has only been strengthened after Aemond's mother has forced Luke and his family to leave their home, the only place that he has ever known. It would make sense if he felt some resentment. Does this warrant the way Luke, Jace and Aegon treated Aemond? No, of course not. However, I think it's important to remember that Aegon was clearly the leading figure in Aemond's torment. It was made quite clear in the show that Alicent placed most of the blame on them while, in reality, her son was really at fault. Like seriously, calling two little kids "savages" while your son, who is much older than them, is harassing everything with a pulse. If Aemond is at fault, it would make even more sense that Luke would go with the others to confront him. Too, in a sense, take out these negative feelings he holds for him. And also, if Aemond has done something like this, it would serve to fulfill this already negative image that Luke has of his uncle. This negative image has been created by the people around him and he is too young to recognize this.

Baela and Rhaena are, rightfully, upset with what Aemond has done and enter a physical altercation with him. This after Aemond has insulted their dead mother. Luke isn't really involved until Jace is, again following his lead. He is quickly overpowered, which make sense, as Aemond is around twice his age. Yes, someone that is 10 or 11 is still a child but not in the way a 5 or 6 year old is. He isn't even really involved when the others momentarily overpower him, he comes in after they are pushed off. After which he is chocked by Aemond and his life is threatened. No, I don't think that Aemond would have killed Luke, but too Luke, it totally feels that way. After Luke gets out of Aemond's grip, he does the same to Jace. Why wouldn't Luke think that Aemond would kill his brother? What does a 10 year old look like to a 5 year old? Why shouldn't Luke defend his older brother from this threat? We can't judge his actions based on what we would have done, as calm adults behind a screen.

The only people to blame are the adults. The guards who didn't intervene and the parents who allowed these seeds of hate to grow between their children. No, it wasn't Aemonds fault either. Yes, I think he had a right to claim Vhagar.

Reblog if you believe asexuals deserve the same representation as other sexual orientation.

Reblog if you think asexuality is a legitimate sexuality.

I'm trying to prove something.
