Once again thinking about: "He was only fifteen-" "I'm fifteen!"

Imagine being Harry and finding out that one of the worst people you've ever met who does nothing but belittle and degrade you, who has become the antithesis of everything you aspire to be, is the victim of the exact person you believed to be the gold standard.

Because for years, everyone was telling Harry one thing about James while Snape was saying another and, for years, Harry had been comfortable believing Snape was the one who was wrong.

So, imagine being Harry and all you have left of your parents is the memories people choose to share with you, so you take all the scraps and make this Frankenstein idealistic version of your parents because, for a moment, it makes you feel like you actually know them.

And then, just in case you forgot, reality reminds you in maybe the worst way that you don't know these people at all.

harry james potter it really is sad not so much because Harry discovers that James was The Worst Person Ever™ (he wasn't) (i mean his behaviour in that scene towards Snape is horrendous but it's Snape's WORST Memory not Snape's Standard Memory) no it's sad because in that one scene Harry figures out that a) he can never really know his parents. their friends's memories are flawed b) he can't 100% trust the word OR the moral fiber of adults around him that he admires like Sirius or Lupin this takes place in the same book where Dumbledore is acting all distant and weird and won't listen to him AND the same book where the ministry turns out to be a cesspool of cowardly morons totally down to use psychological warfare against a 15 y like ootp is just Losing Your Childhood Innocence: The Book >>>>>yes these tags are perfect plus “he was only fifteen-” “i am fifteen!” is such a perfect way to put into words the conflict like ugh

one of the most baffling things of the pro prostitution movement is their favorite mantra, “sex work is work.” that’s so funny. what do you expect me to say, “no it isn’t?” because i don’t care. makes not a lick of difference to me. you know what else is work? child labor, sweatshop labor, prison labor, slave labor, sharecropping, indentured servitude. all work. do you know why reasonable people are against those things? it’s not because they aren’t work. it’s because the inherently exploitative and potentially injurious conditions of the jobs make them morally unjustifiable. “sex work is work,” so what? what’s your point?
