Supporting his every step.
Yeah, I know it's not unproblematic, but while we live in a world where there are rich people, I think we need to bring back the concept of "noblesse oblige" and Duty and stuff. No buying thousand dollar Shein hauls and all that junk! NO. With great power comes great responsibility. You, rich person, are supporting all the Artisans and small businesses and putting your money back into your community! Somebody needs to, and I WISH it could be ME! But you're the one with the money, so it's YOU. It's your responsibility to do this, you HAVE to. AND it's also your responsibility to wear fancy and pretty clothes again, so that the rest of us can have something pretty to look at when you go by. This is your JOB and your DUTY, so hop to it! Noblesse oblige!
my darling amy. it is you i want, not your family. i have gone to london to make myself worthy of you. please, do not do anything we shall regret.
it’s funny how we can read the same two people falling in love 200,000 different times and never get tired of it

“Grief she could not feel, for there had been too much bitterness between her mother and herself to leave in her heart any deep feeling of affection; and looking back on the girl she had been she knew that it was her mother who had made her what she was.”
— W. Somerset Maugham, excerpt from The Painted Veil
