saw a theory that the SmokeStack twins were posing as one man in Chicago, which helped them get away with stealing from both sides. i'm poised to believe that because visually their clothing was very clearly of the two mobs. smoke was full irish— tweed, bowler hat. while stack had the full mafia look. yk italian leather shoes, fedora etc etc . like the details!!

The “Aaron purrs when he talks” convo has sent me down a rabbit hole of this man’s voice (again lol), and I found baby boy’s voice work
cruelty is so easy. youre not special for choosing it
if sinners (2025) taught me anything, it's that it IS actually always about race.
you can be oppressed, and still promote and maintain the very same systems of oppression onto other marginalized people. being oppressed in one dimension doesn't allow you to be exempt from oppressing in other dimensions. the "villain" of the movie, remmick, being from the time period of the english colonization of ireland, all the while wanting to take a piece of sammie's own culture from him, use him for it. and this plot point coming after remmick witnesses the significance of sammie's playing within his culture, for his ancestors and how it would shape Black culture in the future.
even in today's society, ive noticed that people treat Black people like a commodity. our worth is only as much as other people decide it to be, and that's usually dependent on how much the oppressor can take from us. for example, the controversy of"internet slang" and how it is blatantly just AAVE with a bad disguise on
do you listen to Black musicians? do you watch Black movies? do you engage with Black creators? do you defend the racist tendencies you notice in your friends, in your family, or do you stay silent? do you listen when Black people tell you you've said or done something racist? do you actually care about not being racist, or do you just not want to look like you're racist?
i just think people have a very specific take on what racism is, and that if they're not committing KKK-levels of violence on people, then they're not racist. or if you've experienced oppression in one form, you cannot possibly be engaging with oppression in another form. but the ways in which we interact with other people and the world will always be through the lens of race, because that is simply what it means for oppression to be systemic, especially in the US and our current political climate
anyway 10/10 movie. highly recommend
*spoilery things ahead*
I couldn't get over how insidious it was of him to use our ring-shout ceremony to force-assimilate the Black juke joint folks into his little vampire cabal.
That clockwise and counterclockwise dancing in a circle is so powerful for us. We did it in Congo Square, among the Geechee/Gullah in the low country, and elsewhere. It is the place of communing with spirits to put us in a trance-like state to open that doorway. We use it in Hoodoo, Voodoo, Candomble, Obeah and other syncretic religious off-shoots that we've created and used throughout the Black Diaspora to bind us with our ancestors and call down our Gods/Orishas/Loas to often ride us like horses.
For him to use our most intimate way to connect with our own for his nefarious use--forcing us to dance to his music, and sing HIS Irish songs--offended me the best way in a movie. Ryan did his homework! I almost shouted in the theater, "Oh, no this dude did not just use our cultural practices to uplift him and his own. Tricking them into thinking they were the same."
Anyhoo, shout out to the ring-shout. The details in this fucking movie still blow me away. The ring-shout dancing is liberation for us and often had be done hidden away in the woods. Watching it used to enslave Black people again was intense.
Sidenote: Jack O'Connell was dancing his ass off and I'm so happy he got to get back into his Irish dancing roots himself! Somebody throw on Beyonces "Riverdance"! Lol!

summary: aftercare headcanons with smoke and stack.
Aftercare with Smoke and Stack? It may be something that both would have to be vulnerable or open up to.
Smoke is likely to treat his partner with aftercare. He'll help you clean up, make sure you are comfortable and satisfied. Overall just taking care of you the best to his ability is in the list of his top priorities. Personally don't see him as the type to leave you hanging or on your own. Smoke is a lot more silent, observant and pays close attention to your well-being. Small or casual talk here and there.
He will take it seriously because who's to say that he wouldn't?
Depending on how strong your relationship with Stack is—in this instance you are presumed as his lover— he'll take care of you. Make sure you're okay and got everything you need, get you cleaned up, etc.
It would be different if you weren't Stack's significant other or someone he genuinely cared about. If it was just a fling, aftercare would be thrown out the window, no questions asked.

omar benson-miller, wunmi mosaku and miles caton behind the scenes as cornbread, annie and sammie for SINNERS (2025)
The immediacy with which you know which twin is on the screen is CRAZY!! Michael’s acting is so nuanced that you can tell the difference between Shadow and Stack simply by the way their eyes glint…
I'm still on a high from seeing SINNERS 😮💨
