Ahh, So That’s Why Morbius Hasn’t Been Very Active In The Comics Lately…

Okay all -- few quick thoughts about the Elon Muskifying of the government, especially the takeover of the Treasury and associated financial data for every single US citizen and organization, that we are learning about in detail today.

Don't panic. This sounds bad, because it is bad. It's really, really bad. It's outrageously fascist bad. But we've still gotta take a deep breath and get through it.

This is the kind of shock-and-awe exercise of untrammeled fascist power where they are absolutely counting on gleefully terrorizing, paralyzing, and stunning you into mounting no resistance, or just giving up and giving in. They are literally live-tweeting it in real time and boasting about all the access and influence they have right now. They want you to know about it and feel like you can't do anything, so you might as well let it happen.

We have to show them that's not true.

TIME TO MAKE SOME NOISE. Because it's Sunday night, I've gone ahead and contacted my state Attorney General and both senators by email (but come Monday morning, we should all be calling). Here is the email that I wrote to my AG:

Dear Mr. [AG],

As you will be aware, today (February 2, 2025) the Trump administration has granted wide-ranging access to sensitive US Treasury data, including the personal and private information of [state] citizens, to Elon Musk's so-called "Department of Government Efficiency." Musk is an unelected private citizen who has no legal right to access this data, and is engaging in extensive intimidation and coercion to fulfill his personal and harmful ideological agenda. The present and material harm that this causes to US citizens, [state] residents, and basic laws of government, privacy, and financial security is direct, unconscionable, and actionable. I strongly urge you, in your capacity as [state] Attorney General, to file direct suit against the Trump administration, Elon Musk, the "DOGE" office, and any identifiable individuals who have taken part in this action, in order to protect consumer data, citizen privacy, and basic faith and trust in government.

Short! To the point! Doesn't waste time, tells him what I want him to do, how Elmo's nonsense directly harms the residents of my state, and why he should take action to stop it! And frankly, given how on-the-ball blue-state AGs have been thus far, they're probably already working on it. If you are in a red state, your voice is particularly important right now. The Trumpsters are counting on and are even emboldened by blue state pushback, but you really need to make it start coming from Republican strongholds. Congressional Republicans will only feel the slightest amount of unease about docilely enabling this BS when it starts threatening their own personal power. Hit them where it hurts.

Other lawsuits are coming. Marc Elias, Democratic lawyer extraordinaire, is well aware of this situation and has noted on Bluesky that more lawsuits are in the works. He often wins his cases. This does not mean that you shouldn't loudly make noise elsewhere, but please remember that this is one of those 24-hour periods where, as noted, they are counting on demoralizing you with a nonstop blizzard of bullshit. It does not say anything about how this will play out long-term or the opposition that can and will be mobilized to stop it.

Once again: courage. Take the small steps that you can do today. Then take a breath and get off social media for a little while. Try to take the long view. One step at a time, we will get through this.

Head canons for Multimedia-Morbs

TAS: is the only: Romanian, one with both parents, one not sick, and one without a doctorate. He does impress everyone with his palm suckers (it’s more scientific curiosity than anything). Also surprises the rest by being friendly with blade and black cat. Is the closest to being an actual hero.

Ultimate: was probably raised by his father, it would explain a lot; his ethics, posh English accent, penchant for being backstabbing etc… he would be secretly jealous of the others for having love interests and/or dead bestfriends (he didn’t have a Nikos or Martine). Could be considered the token evil teammate, but he’s only ever been as successful long term as dr.doofensmirtz, so… practically harmless? he Is definitely the worst at teamwork, or even partnership. Gets made fun of for his life draining ability.

616: all the comics have happened to him, so he is tired and just wants to settle down with the lizard as a lab partner. Still has every version of his costume though, even the 90s one (is surprised to see that TAS and Movie’s costumes reference it). His power set and personality slightly change depending on which costume he wears. Probably ties with Midnight Son for knowing the most other superheroes. Is aware that he should probably be in his 80s or 90s if it weren’t for comic book time dilation.

Blood ties: never progressed past the stories in vampire tales, so is very confused when 616 Michael references things after them. He is very happy to know that he’ll eventually reunite with martine; no one tells him about the 90s out of kindness. His suit is navy and red where 616’s is black and red. He considers 616 to be his future, but really they’re more like divergent timelines.

Midnight Son: uses the literal deck of cards from the game to do his moves (he doesn’t think anything of it cause that’s just ‘how it works’), the others make fun of him for it. Probably has more costumes than 616 does, but they don’t really do anything (except for the yellow midnight Sun one having magical properties). He ties with Movie for being the handsomest (he wins prettiest vampire, movie wins prettiest human). Also, confuses the heck out of 616 whenever he talks about who is and isn’t on the midnight Sun’s roster (midnight suns the game and midnight sons the comics are very different). Is probably the best at teamwork.

Movie: is confused why everyone has Nikos as a childhood friend while he had Milo (isn’t sure which is better; dead best friend or evil best friend…?). Is slightly smug about being able to do the face thing. Baffles everyone by not knowing who Spider-man is but still knowing about Venom. Has a meta awareness of how poorly he stacks up to the rest of them; most of the others are impressed by his power set.

He would have all the bats, but also, maybe an audino from martine; and possibly, probably reluctantly (cause it’s funny) a joltik from spidey

would Michael Morbius have a crobat or a golbat if he was in Pokémon world

Multimedia Morbs Headcanon #4:

Q1) How do they react to being bodily picked up?

TAS: didn’t notice it during his fight with spider-man (just figured spidey had super strength, isn’t wrong…), was shocked and pleasantly surprised when black-cat did it (it would be pretty hot, wouldn’t it? even without her powers she could still lift him probably), but he was incredibly embarrassed when Blade picked him up (Blade was also surprised, but he didn’t let on)

Ultimate: absolutely pissed if done while awake, if unconscious then he goes limp as a noodle (that makes things worse given his wings make it even more awkward to pick him up)

616: resignation, this has happened way too often; thankfully, it usually happens when he’s unconscious (he’s always been underweight and considered liftable, even before his accident, it’s just now more people qualify as “strong enough” to pick him up)

Blood ties: is always a little surprised when it happens, but he can still pick others up just as easily, so he still thinks of it as kind of fair (just don’t tell Amanda! she probably wouldn’t do anything with it… but he’d definitely have a hard time living that down)

Midnight Son: Once it was found out, he was nudged into participating in a “fastball special” competition against the Wolverine (for scientific and team building purposes): technically he goes further and can partner up with more teammates, but Logan still hits harder on impact, so… therefore: The Wolverine won the game.

Movie: no one has ever tried to pick him up, but he remembers almost being blown off that rooftop by the wind; so he’s under no illusions that it can’t be done. He would hope, though, that no one else figure that out (but if somebody were to pick him up, he’d want it to be Martine; it will probably be venom instead)

Q2) Most interesting secondary superpower/mutation that they have?

TAS: the underlying psionic ability he has that lets him hover/float; he has no idea where it came from, or how bat DNA or the neogenic process could have caused it… and that is so exciting for him! (616 had a more developed version of it, but his has atrophied over the years since he discovered it in the 90s; since 616’s ability didn’t stop at flight, does that mean TAS’s will also develop further? If not then what makes his different from 616’s? They like to work together on this as a form of bonding)

Ultimate: energy manipulation, it’s technically a very integral part of how he eats but it also goes further than just that… or at least it has the potential to go further than that and become something greater! However, He’s still working on that part, though…

616: he can taste things like: blood type, drug usage, demonic heritage, or if you have a working copy of the ‘X’ gene from just one mouthful of blood; He’s not doing it consciously, and it’s not exactly flashy, but the fact that it continues to come in handy is what makes it interesting for him (he already knows that nothing in his body works in any way, shape, or form that could be called ‘normal’ so stuff like that isn’t as interesting for him)

Blood ties: The reaction he has to demon blood is very interesting, could other similar substances create different effects? (This is highly unethical to look further into… but Amanda isn’t around to tell him ‘No!’, so…?)

Midnight Son: Mist form, nobody else can do it or explain it so that makes it unique, and therefore interesting! (The others would actually argue that it’s his card deck that’s most interesting, but since that’s just how the rules of his reality work he never considers this)

Movie: echolocation, since it lets him see through walls and across town, but also it lets him predict where objects in motion are going to be next and lets him communicate with bats! It’s so overwhelming (read: over powered) sometimes though… so he tries to use it sparingly.

Q3) Least favorite side effect of their powers (besides the hunger)?

TAS: accidental synesthesia of his sense of taste and touch, sometimes the hand-suckers leave a sort of phantom aftertaste in his mouth after using them.

Ultimate: inability to digest solids, since whatever mechanism lets him absorb life force also renders him unable to keep down solid food. He intentionally designed it with this cruelty in mind when he was going to use it on octavius, but unfortunately it got turned on him instead…

616: accidentally created/unlocked a very strong self preservation instinct, it keeps him from offing himself but often at the price of a loss of control until the life threatening part is over, it has made him do things that he wouldn’t consciously do (according to others: makes him very verbose and prone to slipping into the 3rd person tense in English)

Blood ties: can go through ‘withdrawal symptoms’ on par with coming off of heavy narcotics when he hasn’t fed in a long enough period; it’s different from just being ”hungry” though; (616 theorizes that it has to do with Blood ties’ body using the effects of his respective formula to offset his chronic disease, and the absence of fresh blood renders those effects inert: therefore he’s just dying again…)

Midnight Son: tooth sensitivity, the bat species he used for his experiment typically has less of the hard outer enamel that human teeth have, this is part of what makes their teeth razor sharp. But the gene didn't exactly express the same way while using human teeth as a base ( instead it thinned out his enamel in a way that left it sensitive to temperature and sweets, but technically did make them sharper…)

Movie: accidental synesthesia of his sight and new super-hearing/ echolocation, sometimes loud/sudden/harsh noises kick up visual feedback through this connection and that can be anywhere from mildly annoying to two-day-long-migraine causing

The way that Dracula started subtly at first but he's been slowly and lovingly stripping the agency away from Jonathan every single day for weeks and weeks taking away his sleep his personal space his privacy destroying his belongings gaslighting him making him isolate himself from loved ones making him seek refuge from danger in Dracula's mercy and now taking away not just his means of communication but his very identification. The way that everything that once made him Jonathan Harker now belongs to Count Dracula. The way that his name isn't even his own anymore so he might as well forget it

basically, i think the general rule of thumb is: if someone REALLY wants the blood that’s inside of your body, and they’re like… a vampire, or a dracula, or some sort of mansquito, then that’s probably okay. a dracula and a mansquito are made for removing things like blood and swords from inside your body. that’s basically fine.

if something wants to get at your blood, and they’re, say, some kind of murdersaurus, or maybe a really big frog, that’s where the problems start to arise. a really frog is not made for removing blood, and your blood knows this, which is why it is so vehement about wanting to stay IN your body instead of coming out. 

unfortunately this will not deter a really big frog, because a really big frog is full of things like prizes, and value, and quite a lot of hatred, and it would REALLY rather like to replace any and all of those things with your blood, and basically by any means possible.
