Nope Now It’s At The Point That I’m Shocked That People Off Tt Don’t Know What’s Going Down.

You know what, I want to eventually introduce y’all to my dnd characters, because they are my personal blorbos and the only people who know about them, well, already know about them. Which makes it kind of hard to just share things about them…

Of course I’m not gonna dump all my babies on y’all in one post. Where would be the fun in that?

Today I just want to introduce you to my son, Anthony. I mean son quite literally, because he is the child of my player character before him in this campaign. Her name was Cheryl, and she was a housewife from the 70s who got isekaied to a magical fantasy land and conscripted to represent the god of druids in a prophecy. She was wildfire Druid w/ a bat familiar the size of a shih tzu, enough said.

Alas, if I’m talking about her son, then you can guess that poor Cheryl did not make it.

From his perspective, at 2 years old, his mother died in house fire one morning while cooking breakfast for him and his big sister, Sheri. He and his sister survived, of course, and he was later sent to live with his mother’s family in Montana when the Arizona State courts ruled his father unfit to care for both children.

He didn’t figure out what actually happened to his mother until he was in his 30s and the same thing happened to him!

Anthony worked as a stuntman and creature actor in Hollywood for most of his adult life. They were all small parts until he got offered a role in a weird vampire/superhero sequel in the late 90s/early 2000s. Sometime in the late spring/early summer of 2001, during filming in Europe, he got isekaied on set when a stage light fell on him.

When he was summoned he was in full costume and wearing SFX makeup. So the magic, which made things like another PC’s foam Larp armor into genuine metal plate, interpreted his makeup as his default race…

Thus making him a Living Dhampire!

This had fun consequences for Anthony, such as: the party trying to kill him the first they met him, Fantastic racism from the locals, and re-learning how to close his mouth.

Just like his mother, Anthony became a Druid and took up the party’s quest. He was a Primordial Druid, though, and where his mother specialized in fire magic, he specialized in wind/weather spells.

He also had a bat companion, but she was about golden retriever sized and had a knack for biting things instead of setting them on fire. Her name is Cama, and she recently grew big enough to ride.

There is a lot I could go on to tell y’all about Anthony, but that would take too long, so here’s a lightning round of fast facts:

He has his mother’s freckles, even in Dhampir form

He’s terrified of chickens and large fires

He ate a devil fruit, it was a Lizu-lizu no mi: chameleon model

Some visual inspirations for him include: Pedro pascal, Miguel O’Hara, reaper vampires from blade 2 and 90s cartoon Morbius

His favorite superhero is the human torch

He calls the spell ‘flame shield’ ‘mother’s love’ in dedication to his mother

He still carries his first piece of fan mail on him, it was from his sister

And He briefly contracted lycanthropy.

I’m sorry, did you tag Morbius as one of the villains in love? Because the two of them literally don’t give two shits about each other. Bro is barely a Spider-Man “Enemy”, they just don’t have that much chemistry (I.e. neither of them hates the other nearly as much as some of these other guys do, like they’re just a nuisance to each other and that’s it). I mean, yeah, on occasion Peter has felt bad for the guy… but more often than not he pounds him into the dirt for looking at a blood bag funny…

Peter Parker truly has a disproportionate amount of enemies that are homoerotically obsessed with him and yet Marvel maintains that he must stay straight

TAS: Felicia was one of the first people to actually treat him like a person at school and not some foreign weirdo. He was so heartbroken to think he scared her during those first few nights after his accident, but then after she got over the shock, she still tried to help him! And even after his little hibernation stint in that remote cave on that island, when he woke she still loved him and came back to him!! Obviously nothing can or ever will come between them (she never mentioned her partnership with Spider-Man as Black Cat or that she was going out with Peter when they first met; and thank god he never put together that Peter Parker was Spider-Man…).

Ultimate: Love Shmove! W-what does he need that for? (Stuttering in 40-year-old virgin..) Love would just be a distraction from the real important things in life: like science, and promotions, and (gaining his father’s respect/love…); B-but, if he had to describe an ideal partner: just as smart as he is, affectionate, appealing to look at… maybe a blonde? (Notice how he never specified gender…)

616: Oof… yeah, he’s not currently seeing anyone… (And maybe he’s just not ready to?). Things didn’t end well with Martine (he screwed up, she screwed up, they both kind of screwed up together?), and it’s not like he didn’t try to date again (the 90s through 2010s just weren’t his decades). Not to mention his old childhood crush/friend Elizabeth showing up; and that really was the point at which he realized he might need to work on himself first. Yeah, so for right now he’s just content to platonically be ”Lab Partners” with The Lizard for now. (This doesn’t give Blood ties much hope (also, since when did Nikos have a younger sister?); Midnight Son absolutely ships him and the lizard, and is rooting for them to discover their feelings for each other!)

Blood ties: He still misses his fiancée Martine, and as soon as he’s done helping Amanda, he’s going right back to searching for her! She’s got to still be out there! Surely she doesn’t hate him? Surely she won’t think he’s a monster, right? Oh, who is he kidding… (he’s a moppy mess and 616 is hesitant to tell him how close he probably is to being reunited, mostly because he remembers it barely lasting, but also because their paths have long since diverged and it might not actually happen…)

Midnight Son: The Hunter is nice, they’re not really a thing together or anything, but… W-well! Man or Woman, they’ve always been kind to him and tried to include him in stuff going on at the manor… And and! They took interest in what he had to say, even outside of midnight suns stuff! And, just… yeah they make his heart flutter (Ultimate cynically thinks he should get that checked out…)

Wii game: He loves his wife, absolutely forgives her for the whole symbiote thing and turning him into a monster (obviously they both got better, you know?); just an absolute Wife-guy! (Everyone is shocked for quite a few reasons: 1) what do you mean “wife”? (none of them got past “fiancée” without something bad happening), 2) what do you mean “you got better”? (None of them ever managed to get completely cured or stay that way for long), and 3)who the fuck are you?)

Movie: Well, he and Martine weren’t quite together yet… He liked her a lot, she was a good nurse and a good friend, but he just hadn’t gotten around to asking her out or anything. There just always seemed to be something in the way at the time, like patients or research or something… And a first date always felt like it might be awkward, cause like, she’s literally seen him in his worst condition and literally counted his vertebrae! He already felt unofficially close to her, so he just never made a move… and now she’s gone (and it was his fault!), so… what’s the point now? (616 isn’t sure how to tell him that Martine might not actually be dead currently; and boy does he know that that’s not automatically a good thing…)

Q2) “How do they feel about their Spider-Man? If they don't have one (Movie Morbius) how do they feel about their antagonist?”

TAS: Honestly, Spider-man meant well and he (Michael) was being a bit of jerk/terror to others during those first few nights, however he still didn’t appreciate getting punched a couple times…Howevere, if he was going to be upset with anyone, it would be that little jerk Parker for whatever the fuck was in that “blood sample” that he was going to use to cheat in Dr.Connor’s class with (ain’t no way and no how that he made that stuff himself!)

Ultimate: he’s not scared of Spider-Man… who said anything about that? It’s not like that guy can fold Octavius in half and regularly punches symbiotes in the face… Or that he may or may not have accidentally targeted some high school girl that meant something to that red and blue menace…

616: *sigh* He’s tired of dealing with Spider-Man, it’s too much of a hot and cold relationship, really. Some days Spidey gets it: that he doesn’t want to do any of the things his hunger urges him to do and that he just needs a little assistance to snap out of it… and then on other days, Spider-Man will snap: basically use him as a punching bag! He gets that sometimes his hunger can make him a threat, but the amount of times he’s been sent through multiple walls? when it’s not even his fault? it’s too many! it’s almost hypocritical…

Blood ties: meh, they had a rocky start, but he doesn’t really interact with that guy all that much anymore? If anything he just hasn’t had time to think about Spider-Man or that part of his life very much lately…

Midnight Son: ehh, the young man (and he can tell that his Spider-Man is still young) is a good enough teammate. Between him and Blade missions are less awkward than with any other combination of heroes… (maybe it’s out of familiarity?).

Movie: He… hesitates to call Mil- No, Lucien, his antagonist. They were like brothers, and-and Lucien had good reason to be upset when he tried to withhold the “Cure” from him, and most of the irrational behavior wasn’t actually him talking, but… He tried to warn Milo about the side effects, so why…? Why didn’t he listen to him? Why didn’t he trust him when he said it wasn’t worth it? Everything he ever did, he did it for both of them! He wanted to find a better way to do that, but now there’s NO POINT! Now, it’s too late: he’s dead! Dead because I loved him! Dead because he thought I no longer cared…

Bonus Question:

BQ1) What do they think of Dracula?

TAS: Which one? Historical Dracula, or his great great grand-something-or-other that’s still running walaicha? Or are we talking about Movie Dracula? Because Bella Lugosi will always be the classical version, but personally, he liked Cristopher Lee better…

Ultimate: it was a good book, very modern for its time, really enjoyed the cowboy!

616: Dracula should go gargle two 2-inch balls of garlic-salt! And that stupid looking suit of blood-red armor is just tacky! Why, He even wishes he could go back in time to when he still thought Dracula was just a fictional character!!

1610: Yeah! his older brother suuuucks…! (yep, even more than the average vampire already does…) And you know what, if he could, he would absolutely take a stake to him himself!

Blood ties: Umm, isn’t Dracula just a fictional character? Also is anyone going to address that last guy’s answer? (Who was that anyway?)

Midnight Son: Dracula sucks, Period. He’s a research stealing, forethought lacking, Hack of a leader! And he deserves every splinter he gets each time Blade or some other vampire hunter drives a stake into his dried up husk of a heart!!

Movie: Hmmm, actually Copula’s Dracula is the best (sorry TAS…); wait, why is everyone else implying that Dracula is a real actual person in their universe?

Even though today’s discussion questions have been answered, many more have been raised: Who are these extra Morbs? How long have there been other cell blocks on either side of theirs? And who, or what, might be in them?

Lately, Data had been on something of a ‘weird history’ kick. During his last shift, someone had mentioned, off hand as a ‘Fun Fact’, that Vulcans were not “technically” the first race to contact humanity. This was news to Data. He found it fascinating that no one ever spoke about this phenomenon. He spent the whole night wondered what actual merit there was to the subject while he rested. In the morning he decided to hunker down in his room with Spot and do some further research.

That morning became noon, and from noon it became evening. Spot mewed to be fed or petted, but unfortunately Data could not hear her from the bottom of his digital rabbit hole. There was too much to learn. The ship’s archives had articles on easily a thousand named species, supposedly sighted in just the mid twentieth century alone!He, of course, found that most ended up to be hoaxes as he read further into them, but a few were truly genuine.

A favorite example example of his were the Arcturians of Arcturus Four. They were quite advanced, supposedly being capable long distance space travel since some 10,500 years ago. Most of them didn’t look all that much different from standard modern humans. Give or take a post war mutant. As species they specialized in genetic engineering and production of exceptionally lifelike androids.

They had sent a ship to earth near the dawn of humanity, but other than that they weren’t really well documented by the federation until sometime within the past hundred years.

Data wanted to spent all of tomorrow and then some on the topic of Arcturians, but he quickly ran out reading material. As they were currently, the ship’s records of them had very large and crucial gaps in them. He tried to look for any other sources on subject outside of the archive, but came up empty. Well except for one result from the crew roster: supposedly there was an Arcturian who worked the night shift in the sickbay… which gave Data an idea.

“You know, Spot, I would really like to meet this ‘Dr. Morbius’.” Data absentmindedly admitted to his cat. “Mrrr-urp?” Replied Spot, perking up from her nap. “You’re correct, sick-bay is not far from here, but he might be busy…” Data reminded her. “Meow” Spot countered, walking over to sit by one of Data’s clocks. “Hmm, well, it is late. Maybe he wouldn’t be very busy after all… plus he might enjoy some company.” Data decided, getting up from his chair.

“Mew?” Asked Spot, as she determinedly trotted after Data. He paused at the door, “Oh! I almost forgot. Let me get you dinner before I go”. Spot let out a warm purr at the notion.

You are at the point in the night where you are both starving and feeling nauseated at the same time. If you can wait five more minutes, for probably absolutely nothing to happen, then you can get your nightly “drink”… and leave.

Four minutes can not elapse quickly enough for you; you have keep yourself from gnawing on the inside of your cheek out of impatience. The ship’s blasted lighting isn’t Helping Either!

The only reliably dark room on this entire floor is your cabin, and only because you have control of the lighting inside of it. Everywhere else makes you want to claw your own eyes out around this time of night.

But it will be ok. Relief is only three minutes away now. Yes, sweet, salty, red relief…

You know you can’t keep doing this. You can not continue to do this every night. Eventually, someone will notice the pattern. Eventually, you will slip up… and they will catch you.

But your shift is over in two minutes, now. And you don’t give a damn at this point. You already started packing up four minutes ago… the rest of this, just starring down the clock, has been to punish yourself.

It’s time to go.

You tuck your chair in and pocket your data pad like none of that just ran through your head.

You stop at the medical replicator on the way out. You dare not use voice commands for this, instead typing out your dirty order on the ‘archaic’ psychical screen. It takes a second, and then you have your prize.

If only it had been this easy back in your day…

Your spirits are lifted quite a great deal as you walk out the door. Not even the dreadful hallway lighting can bring you down now!

A quick walk home is all that stands between you and liquid bliss…

The monotonous hallway is easily tuned out with the lovely swish of your nondescript thermos’s contents. It, sadly, doesn’t have the same effect on the nearby sound of footsteps approaching from behind.

“Hello? Oh, excuse me, but did you just come from Sick-bay? I’m looking for Dr.Morbius, do you know if he’s left yet?” Asks the cause of you disturbance.

You cringe inwardly: you were asked for by name… what could they possibly want with you right now?

You turn to face the interloper, and with your best bedside manner, reply “Yes, but I’m afraid that I am just now leaving. Did you need medical attention?” Through all but gritted teeth.

“No, I do not require medical attention currently, but do require your assistance with something else!” Enquires the sallow skinned man, expression and voice locked at neutral.

You try not to make a face, “Is that so?”. You sigh. “what exactly do you need from me at this time of night?” You ask with some trepidation.

“I would like learn more about your Home-world, Arcturus Four, what can you tell me about it?” He asks with lukewarm smile, inflection just barely reaching out of monotony and into excitement.

“Hmmm, plenty?… but I do not, exactly, have the time to-night. Maybe could this be a rain check?” You ask, in a manner you hope is casual, begging him to take a hint. “Oh, are you sure you do not have a minute?” He asks, continuing to beg the question while you start to disengage.

“I am positive, and it is nearly morning, Mr. …?” “Data” “right, καλησπέρα, Mr. Data! And Goodbye.” You tell him forcefully as you power walk away, hoping that he doesn’t pursue the matter.

“Oh… ok, sleep well doctor…” you hear as a muffled response from far behind you. You are happy to finally put some distance between yourself and him, but it rankles you that that will not fix the rapidly changing temperature of your prized treat.

“So help me, god, if there are clots in this!” You mutter to yourself as you finally approach you cabin door . Sigh, so much for your morning.

Later that morning, in Ten Forward, Data saw Geordi at breakfast and decided to tell him about his conversation last night. “Hey Data, how are you this morning?” Geordi asked as the android sat down across from him. “I am fine, how are you today, Geordi?” Data replies, internally pleased with his delivery. He had been practicing!

“Doing good, doing good… but you know, I don’t think I saw you at all yesterday? Was everything alright?” Geordi asked, concern evident in the line of his mouth and the set of his brow. Data frowned, “I did not mean to alarm anyone, I merely got sidetracked with some research based on that ‘Fun Fact’ O’Brian shared with us the other day.”.

“Oh, that one, huh?” Geordi asked with a puzzled expression, and he paused a second in thought. “Well, did you find anything interesting?” He eventually asked politely.

Data thought we would never ask; delighted, he began telling Geordi about all of his findings, in Alphabetical order!

Geordi nodded along politely as he ate his breakfast, but he noticed when Data started losing steam around the ‘Ar’s. He even had a peculiar expression as he told him about ‘Arcturians’.

“Did you know we have one on broad?” He asked he friend, oddly solemn about it. “Hmm, I don’t think I did.” Geordi replied, “But why do you say it like that? Did something happen?” He added.

Data paused, trying to figure out the best place to start. “I met him last night, he works the night shift in the Sick-bay near my quarters. I went there to ask him some questions I had gleaned from gaps in my research on his people. I do not think he felt like answering questions, he asked for a ‘rain check’.” .

Data looked thoughtful, “In that context, a ‘rain check’ does not necessarily mean actually rescheduling, does it?” He asked Geordi.

Geordi looked at his friend with pity, he was impressed that he picked up on that. “No Data, it doesn’t. I’m sorry he was like that, maybe he was just busy?” Geordi offered, trying to console his friend.

“I am not sure. He was walking with urgency, but in the opposite direction of the Sick-bay.” Data replied. “He said he was on his way home, but it felt suspicious. He seemed to be hiding something while we talked…” the android said with some confusion.

“Huh, well that does seem strange…” Geordi agreed, “Do you think we should investigate it?” Data postulates with surprising firmness.

Geordi is not sure how to break it to him that that’s probably not a good idea…

“I don’t know about that, Data” he says, choosing his words carefully, “that’s not really my department. Also, whatever Dr. Morbius is doing, it’s probably none of our business”.

Data ponders his response.

“ I see, Geordi… but what if it becomes the captain’s business?” Data wonders. That isn’t what Geordi meant, that’s not what Data should take away from this…

“I mean… maybe? But do you have, any, proof?” Geordi asks, hoping to deescalate the android’s train of thought. That was the wrong question.

“You are absolutely correct, Geordi! I need proof, first.” Data declared dramatically, and he knew exactly where he was going to find it…

Hi, I read it, it was ok… but a warning to folks who like Michael as a character: read at your own risk!

He’s, no spoilers, very out of character here, and the way he’s used in the plot is a little gross… just a heads up.

However Mitzi is a very fun character and I appreciate her dynamic with Gwen and Peter; I just dislike the method in which she receives her powers (hint: that’s the gross thing).

I think it could have been handled better and in plenty of ways that would not have to resort to that …

(Like literally there’s a whole tank full of recently experimented on bats, right there! Which do get released into a crowd. Spider people don’t have to put with that, so why did Mitzi?)

Spider-Woman and Mitzi; The Living Vampire is a Spider-Verse based story centering around Gwen Stacy, her Peter Parker, and my OC Mitzi Tamanna who’s their best friend. After a field trip goes sinister, she becomes the Morbius variant of Earth-73. In a series of Jennifers Body inspired events, Gwen has to figure out what happened to her friend and how to stop her with Peters help. It’s an angsty teenage action and drama story with a gripping love triangle, all unlike anything you’ve ever seen before. Here’s the link!

Empathy is a bitch

I just realized that, although I love the 2012 Dark Shadows movie, for some people that movie is their 2021 Morbius.

Reasons I like it: It’s Johnny Depp, in a vampire movie, set in the late 60s early 70s, with all the music and Johnny Depp-ing around that that would entail…

But I get what a fan of the Original Dark Shadows would see: that’s not Barnabas Collins, this tone is too cheerful, they truncated whole arcs, and some characters are missing or smooshed together!

Because that’s kind of how I feel about the Morbius movie: that’s not Michael Morbius, they’ve smooshed three different characters into one worse version of an important one, why does this taste like a diet version of the 90s comic? What is this tone?

But someone probably says: yes! Jared Leto is Jared Leto-big all over the place, and I love that Milo guy, I’d like to ship him and Michael, and ooo! Cool special effects! Boy, what a fun early 2000s comic book movie!

And I cringed, just like those poor Dark Shadows fans did. However, 3 years out from my worst ever experience with the cinema, I can’t completely find it in my heart to hate movie-character Morbius anymore. In the grand multiversal scheme of things he’s just another version of my favorite character, and he did nothing wrong but exist in a shitty movie. And I hope the Dark shadows fans eventually realized this about movie-character Barnabus too. He might not be your favorite version of the guy, but he’s still that guy. And he might become someone’s favorite.

I just thought I’d point this out because sometime in the next decade or so, they will do this again to someone else’s favorite vampire blorbo. I just know that Hollywood will. So I hope that when they do, both fandoms will there to commiserate with the new guys. Because it sucks to see your blorbos done out of character in an adaptation that overshadows their original portrayal.

But just know that that shitty adaptation will make more people interested in that character, and hopefully, they will eventually watch/read the original versions. And then you’ll have new friends!
