“Man, Greta, every day you get even more CUTE! That’s a sin, JUNIOR.”

“Who’s JUNIOR, a man?”

… I suppose that’s a bad habit she picked up from Wolfram.

A lavishly furnished chamber was depicted there but there was no one in it.

“What a beautiful person. They look like Wolf,” murmured Greta next to me with a sigh.

“Eh? There’s no one painted there. Do you think that looks like Wolfram, Greta?”

If I had to say, I suppose the legs on the overly ornate table could kind of look like his.

Lord von Bielefeld Wolfram nodded with his blonde hair shining amber in the light of the torch he was holding too close. Greta’s lips press together as she grasps Wolfram’s arm. Gwendal slowly bent his knees and spoke to Greta in a low voice so he wouldn’t be heard by his subordinates who were watching from afar.

“What happened?”

“It’s impossible for a child to explain,” Wolfram said with a despondent expression as he swung the now useless torch around with pointless movements.

“Then who else should I ask?”

“But, for a child-”

“I can tell you,” Greta says decisively, cutting Wolfram off.

(…)Handing off the torch, Wolfram pulled the child’s shoulders close

Novel 5. ch.2

- Don’t act like me-

“So there’s a possibility that he survived?” Gwendal was surprised at the uncharacteristically deep voice that finally came out of Wolfram’s mouth. It was almost like…(…)

“… It’s Lord Weller’s.” “Which means that’s Conrart’s arm?” Again, his voice was quiet and cool. Noticing that his older brother was giving him a strange look, Wolfram raised his eyebrows and asked, “Brother?” “Don’t act like me.” (…)

After remaining silent for a few breaths, Wolfram began to scream as if a dam had broken. He repeated the names of his most beloved king and his second-oldest brother that he was supposed to have hated, and he cursed the unknown enemy. Without being able to look anyone in the face, he kicked at the walls and candelabras with all his strength. That’s good. At least you should remain emotional. If not, then if in the unlikely event that we lost ‘him,’ then the citizens, the castle, and the country will not withstand it.

“All the more reason for me to ride alone. It’s the fastest way to find out what country the enemy is from and where we need to strike.”

As Wolfram rode away in a manly way completely unlike a spoiled prince, some of the men cheered him on.

They were the ones who bet on Wolfram in His Majesty’s Spec-Oc.

Novel 5. ch.6 - At Ulrike’s-

“Lord von Bielefeld Wolfram! What is the reason for your- Your Excellency!?”

“I have a question for the priestesses. I’m coming in.”(…)

Even though a lady was walking next to him, Wolfram did not even slow his pace. It was for reasons like this that he never quite ended up the object of anyone’s romantic affections. Gisela herself was not looking to be treated as a woman, so in the end they ended up walking shoulder to shoulder at a brisk military pace.(…)

“Do you want money? I can’t meet you unless I have a donation!? If so, I’ve brought some. Name your price!”(…)

“So what’s it going to be, Oracle Priestess? Are you still not going to take responsibility!? Then I’ll to break down this door here and now! But who knows what will happen if I use magic right here in the Temple of Shinou!”

When the verbal abuse stopped for a moment, Gisela pushed aside Wolfram, who was breathing so hard his shoulders were moving with each breath, and called out in a kind voice.(…)

“What was that?” asked Wolfram.

“… I don’t know. It was abnormally strong and unstable… and atrocious. It was erratic… maybe-”

“It’s Yuuri!” (…)

“Whether it’s abnormal or normal, that’s Yuuri. Thank goodness, he’s alive! He’s alive, right!?” Wolfram pressed the flat of his hand to his forehead to stave off the stabbing pain spreading through his sinuses. He held back his tears. “But where is this? Do you know the location?”(…)

“Shimaron of all places.”

Since this had happened to me several times before, I realized that my head was in someone’s lap even before I opened my eyes. But Wolfram isn’t with me and Murata would be a little bonier and harder. What is this superb elasticity?

With bloodshot eyes, Wolfram watched his oldest brother go through details one by one and deal with them. He hadn’t gotten a wink of sleep since yesterday, but he wasn’t feeling tired because he was too exhilarated.

So true. I am so glad Yuki and Machi ended up together. They are totally meant for each other. And Mutsuki is just so sincere in loving his parents... I love them.

One thing I really, really love about Yuki and Machi is how they normalise being messy.

Often in fictional works, whenever we see a character’s room, it’s always tidy, cute, and styled in an aestheticly pleasing way that reflects a character’s personality. And whilst I’m sure that there are many people actually like this, for a lot of us, this is an impossible standard, and it can really feel like you’re doing something wrong when your personal spaces don’t look anything like the beautiful ones often presented in media.

Speaking as someone who struggles with depression (and minor hoarding issues), most days I’m not in the right mental space and can’t really muster the energy to clean, and I always feel extremely guilty and frustrated when I see the clutter around me, because to me it’s a representation of my incompetence and inability to function. So it actually does mean something when Takaya-sensei says through her characters that, whilst you shouldn’t let your messiness become a safety hazard, that a little bit of clutter and disarray is ok, even good.

So when I see Machi, who can’t maintain a clean room because of her mental health, I feel seen. When I see Yuki, who’s messiness isn’t presented as a character flaw, but rather, just a part of him and something that may even bring comfort to others, I feel relieved. When I see Mutsuki, who is actually proud that he inherited his parents’ habits because it brings them closer together, I feel just a little bit better about myself.

But yeah, let's hope GEG-sama can convince sensei to continue with the novel- cause that cliffhanger cannot support my curiosity.

Yuri: Oh I guess that makes sense *awkward laugh*

Wolfram: Yea stupid yuri *blush*

Conrart: So your highness have you made up your mind?

Yuri: huh uh about what *blushes*

Yuri: OH haha right I think I’m going to need a little more time

A day like today 20 years ago the first novel of our beloved series was published in November 2000. This is an incredible anniversary and that’s why we’ll celebrate the whole month with events! 

I hope you can join this special occasion and contribute a little bit by sharing your posts and art here in tumblr.  

This is not the first event run by this blog, if you want to see what we did in previous years you can visit my tags MA Event,  MA Event 2017 and MA Event 2018.

The dynamic of the events is to have some deliver themes and inspiration divided in different sections. This event will run weekly, except for the last week of the month when we’ll have daily content shared to inspire you even more.

The golden moment from when Yuuri was called henachoko!! Most-henachoko-King-in-history and haughty-whatever-sama-Royal-Highness!!

Because yuuram is life, I will make a megapost that will include every yuuram moment in every novel and extra story we have available in English so far. 

I’ll make a post per novel and then make the megapost that will link to them when I have them all. They’ll be long but who doesn’t need a reminder of these wonderful moments in their lives? 

To make it fun, I challenge you to count the times that Yuuri calls Wolfram beautiful.

Novel 1. ch.3 -The first time Yuuri sees Wolfram-

“As for the super beautiful shape of the fourth person, even I might be able to match his physique physically. It can’t be helped because characteristics like the length of the legs is a racial feature, like height and shoulder width and body weight. Since when did I become someone who only worries about body build. Maybe, because of that day when the second pitcher said, "You, since you’re a small target, it’ll be hard to throw a ball into you”.

Even if our bodies are evenly matched, when I just glanced up, I’ve already been defeated. How can he be this beautiful! Because of them, his face emits an aura. Although it’s likely to seem that way because of his dazzling blond hair. His looks and voice are like an older Vienna chorus boy. His white skin seems transparent, and his irises are an emerald green that make me think of the bottom of a lake, and furthermore he doesn’t have a split chin. He’s an angel, definitely an angry angel. However, being in this place, he’s also probably a beautiful Mazoku.“

It seemed like he wasn’t going to stop attacking under any circumstances. Wolfram gulps down his glass, and because he’s beautiful the way he glares this way is all the more fierce. (…)

There are moments when my small-town sense of justice can’t be suppressed. As a catcher, that’s a fatal flaw. It’s very disadvantageous in life.

Right in front of me I had slapped that beautiful face.

The common people wear trunks, while the rich people or nobles generally wear panties with ties on the side. As a gung-ho noble, Wolfram would almost positively be wearing the panties. I don’t want to see him in his underwear, but he has a figure that looks like it’d come off easily during the match. If that happens then the match is mine. You’re immediately defeated if it falls off. There is a rule for that.

(..) From the start I take a low position, and with a quick forward movement I struck Wolfram’s waist while he was unprepared for a lunge. Instead of a loin cloth I took hold of his belt. It was an instant victory.

If he was going to kill him, then kill him. Although it was humiliating that this sort of good-looking brat had him by the neck, it was much more honorable to die like a warrior, than kneel and beg for his life.

He looked away from me oddly, lifting his chin diagonally in an unnatural way.

“No no. On of the pieces of gear you use for baseball is like a stick, as well as a glove and ball, and the pitcher throws and the batter tries to hit it, and if he does the batter becomes a runner, and the catcher takes out the runner.”

“As I thought, a life and death match.”

“At any rate a worthless maou like you can’t even ride a horse by himself! I can gallop with extra luggage on my horse without any trouble, even if you seem uncertain. You’re the first maou to be such a henchoko, so it can’t be helped!”

“D-don’t call me a henachoko!”

“My older brother should have arrived there by now, so everything might already be under control. It isn’t that dangerous, but since you’re a henachoko don’t go where I can’t see you.”

“Don’t listen to him!”

Wolfram’s voice sounded hoarse as he shouted. The uneasiness made my shoulders tremble.

“Ah, huh, you could talk?!”

“Don’t listen to that guy! He’s…”

It wasn’t just my shoulders, but my arms were wrapped around his waist and his entire body was trembling. As he turned his head to face forward I could see beads of perspiration forming at the nape of his neck.

“That man, he betrayed us… He’ll try, to bring you, into his group, too.”

“Wolfram, if it hurts then don’t talk.”

(….)

“From the looks of it, they’re not planning on killing you. It’ll be troublesome if you get hurt trying to resist. Go with Adelbert for now.”

“But, you and everyone…”

“Don’t worry about us.”

I take in his words. If I leave them behind, what will happen to them?

Wolfram whispers briefly again.

“Hurry and go, Yuuri!”

Novel 1. ch.9 -Interesting foreshadowing-

“No, I’ll shout, I’m allowed to shout! I’ll be Japanese until I’m twenty, even if I have the soul of the maou, I’ll be Japanese until I come of age. I think Japan is more peaceful that this country, so even if you tell me to stop I’ll continue talking! I oppose war, completely oppose, I’ll oppose it my whole life, even if in death I’ll oppose it!”

“Appearing without any treasure, don’t embarrass my older brother and me!”

Before I could open my mouth to respond, Wolfram grabbed my chest and fastened a shiny golden decoration to me.

“Hey…”

“My uncle Bielefeld gave this to me when I was a child. It doesn’t have any special origin, but it suits someone who hasn’t gone out on the battlefield, let alone military merit. Anyway, considering Yuuri can’t even ride a horse, he’s the most henachoko king in history.”

“Don’t call me a henachoko~.”

“All right, settle down.”

When he says all that in unnaturally fast speech, Wolfram half-runs away.

The present fastened to the left side of my chest is a gold bird with both wings spread. Conrad smugly gazes after his little brother’s back.

“It seems Wolfram has taken a liking to Your Majesty.”

“Eeeeeh?! That Haughty-Whatever-Sama Royal Highness!?”

Monogatari Series

NisiOisiN (the author of the light Novels) really did a beautiful job in creating this series!! The world building and character portrayals are marvellous. Each character have their own unique depths. A series well made. Nothing of the sort that the hero saves the day but, in Oshino Meme's words, "No one is capable of saving you. Only you can save yourself. But one can lend you a hand."

The protagonist, Koyomi Araragi, is not some awefully powerful and levelled up person. Instead, he is weak and that fact has been told to him for millions of times by others. Even if he does want to, yet, he can't save anyone. He just lends them a hand. His personality is such that for helping somehow he is even willing to sacrifice his life. Although in the end he has no sense of self accomplishment at all. No matter how many times he is thanked, he feels he doesn't deserve it.

He feels more human than any superhero or protagonists out there.

This series addresses real life issues through the help of a story which incorporates ghosts, oddities, supernatural beings, Ghostbusters, vampires, a lot of girls and an average run-of-the-mill high-schooler.

A real emotional roller coaster!!
