White male character: Flies, has super strength, hyper speed, genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist, saves the world.

White male Audience: That's perfect, totally possible and realistic, this is great.

Female character: Talks and Isn't completely useless.

White male Audience: Ugh, what a Mary Sue.

Character of Color: Exists and isn't just background decoration.

White male Audience: Ugh, that's historically inaccurate.

Female Character of Color: Breaths, talk and isn't a maid or a slave.

White male Audience: Ugh, I'm sick of this PC bullshit.

Fat Female Character: Has a personalty and isn't there just to be made fun of.

White male Audience: That's gross, nobody wants to see that, this movie is promoting unhealthy lifestyles.

White male Character: Gets drunks, does drugs, eats unhealthy food...

White male Audience: hahaha yeah let's get wasted.

Character of color: Does something of questionable morals.

White male Audience: This is glorifying thug culture, this is indecent, see stereotypes exist for a reason y'know.

White male Character: Steals, lies, cheats, murders, rapes, breaks the law for no reason, is a total jerk and a criminal with no redeemable qualities.

White male Audience: hahaha awesome, totally me, how nice, he's just misunderstood.

You don’t own fanfics. They’re inherently public domain because they aren’t your IP. Agree or disagree with AI, there are no grounds for “protection” from AI because it isn’t your IP to begin with. That’s what you chose when you chose this medium

Oh dear.

Okay, you get an answer, because at least you took the effort to write your ask out properly, even if you are hiding behind the grey, sunglassed circle.

Do I, or any fanfic author for that matter, have any legal claims to our work? No, not really, no. (Although if someone took a fic, filed off the serial number--deleted the fandom specific elements--, and then had it published for financial gain, yeah, that would be a case.)

BUT

Fandoms are built on a social contract that says we respect each others work, the effort people put into their art. We don't steal or disrespect the work of our peers. By feeding people's fanworks to AI you both steal and disprect it, and we need to make people realize that before it's too late--before fandom falls apart, because there will be no more real, actual fanworks.

Disrepectfully,

Orlissa

(i can't believe I have to say this)

“You might not realize it, but in-your-face displays of heterosexuality are everywhere — the family photo on a desk, the man and woman holding hands on the beach, or an opposite-sex couple kissing in a bar. No one accuses these couples of “flaunting” their sexuality, but make it two men or two women in the photo holding hands or smooching, then we’ve crossed the line. That’s the double standard.”

Steven Petrow, writing on “What’s so upsetting about a gay couple kissing in public?“

Posts about self-positivity are not the place to vent your self-negativity. If you see a post saying something like “Wow, I feel really good about myself today! I hope you have a good day”, it’s very inappropriate to reply with something like “I wish I could, but I’m miserable and nobody has ever liked me”.

It’s fine to make posts venting your emotions (as long as they’re tagged appropriately!), but adding that to someone else’s post - especially if it’s about them feeling good - not only brings the mood down for everyone involved, but also violates important social boundaries

If you wouldn’t say it to a stranger who wished you a good day in public, you shouldn’t say it to a stranger who wished you a good day online. This goes for all types of positivity posts.

Are reposts/theft of user izzyizumis work+gifs deleted yet???

Wall of Shame for gif+fanworks thieves and their supporters who steal my stuff and can't even give me a very simple apology. I'm not asking for much y'all! When it's not dealing with reposters, a general blog about gifs and other relevant PSAs. Have fun reading them all, hopefully you'll learn something significant about how to interact with strangers you don't know online. Genuinely, I hope they help, but I won't entertain reposters, trolls, or any of their supporters. By the way, if you've reposted my stuff or tried to argue with me in favor of stealing and reposting other's hard work without giving proper credit and asking for Permissions, delete it!!! Any reblog here noting fanworks thieves or supporters stays up until relevant posts or conversations are fully, one hundred percent deleted. It's super easy!!! "ANYONE CAN DO IT!!!"
