Here's a cover illustration for the December issue of Nashville Scene on stands now. This is on a story about widespread tear-downs in neighborhoods with historic World War II era houses. You can read the full story online here. Thanks to AD Elizabeth Jones for the fun project!
it’s hard to make candied apples if you’re not exactly corporeal…
Last preview for now! Gotta leave some surprises for the rest of the book! #cauldronsandcasseroles
"Suzy, do you know anything about...witches?"
Suspiria, a masterpiece by Dario Argento. This trippy, amazingly surreal horror film is the subject of my newest tshirt design for Pizza Party Printing's upcoming movie night at the Ottobar. They'll be showing not only Suspiria, but the 1989 horror, The Church (paired with a fucking metal shirt by Jimmy Giegerich), so if you're in Baltimore at the end of the month, be there! Immerse yourself in blood and beer (and the music of the one, the only Goblin). It's gonna be spooky.
The Suspiria shirt is up for sale now at Pizza Party! Pick one up while you can!
cotton candy magic wand pin! I made a super-limited set of these hard enamel pins that will be available at SPX on 9/19!
For Valentines Day I give you a galactic prince reclining on a nebula. Space flowers are perfect for pondering the timeless "She loves me, she loves me not. She loves me, she loves me not..."
"Greetings dear reader, fellow student of the arcane such as you must be. You have selected this guide in your search for a spirit ally, a familiar..."
I'm psyched to announce my newest zine debuting at SPX this September, Warlow's Guide to Wizards, Sorceri & Familiars Arcane. It's a helpful tome for young magi as they make the important choice of a familiar that will accompany them throughout their magical growth. Featuring illustrations of notable witches and wizards and their partners, along with specimen charts and helpful notes from the "author" himself, the great wizard Warlow.
Printed on Cougar natural off-white stock with 3-color interiors and a screen-printed cover. I'm having tons of fun creating these characters and I'm excited for you to see the zine in its entirety at the expo. Hope to see you there!
(Check it out on SPX's debut page here.)
Portrait study: Rosemary Woodhouse.
First face in a horror movie heroine series I'm working on in my "spare" time.
I got to design another t-shirt for Pizza Party Printing, this time for one of my favorite moves ever: the excellent, ass-kicking valley girls vs. zombies, plus some space shit, PLUS Mary Woronov, Night of the Comet. Daddy mighta gotten you an Uzi, but you can get yourself this shirt on preorder here!
Here's a strip I recently completed for Benn Ray of Atomic Books' "Said What?" collection of over-heards. You can read more strips by various artists on the Mutant Funnies blog.
"Severian and the Undine" a scene from Book of the New Sun by Gene Wolfe.
I painted this piece for Seb Mesnard's upcoming gallery event in Paris "The Book Show." Thanks, Seb, for inviting me to participate! You can check out some of the other awesome work on the show blog here.
Book of the New Sun may be my favorite book series of all time. It's so astoundingly good, I don't really have adequate words. It transcends science fiction, fantasy, novel, whatever you want to call it, and is more an epic prose. It's just gorgeous, riveting, mind-blowing imagery and world-making by Gene Wolfe, a writer whose stories change and only get more amazing with each read. Just wow. You guys. You guys need to read it. Jimmy Giegerich introduced me to it. Check out his Severian!
