hii hope you’re having a good time i was wondering if you were okay with a luke castellan x reader request where she has him try all the different flavors of her lipglosses until he finds his favorite please
◟𖥻 gloss taste test : luke castellan
▰▰ pairing: luke castellan x fem!reader
luke trying his girlfriend's lipglosses until he finds his favorite— except he just likes the kisses.
"Next"
Luke's voice is almost lazy, as he leans back on his elbows with a smug, amused smile on his face.
It had all started when Luke saw her collection of lip glosses and he dared to question it, "Why would you have so many if they're basically the same?"
And from that, he'd ended up here, sprawled on her bed, surrounded by her plushies, while she sat cross-legged in front of him, a bunch of glosses scattered over the covers.
"I swear you're not even trying." She shakes her head while applying the next one.
Luke shrugs, eyes fixed on her lips. "It just wasn't a strong contender." His hand suddenly shots up to her waist to pull her close. "Now, come here."
Before she can even drop the tube, he crashes his lips against hers. A soft, breathless giggle leaving her lips.
"That one's good, but not my favorite." he says against her lips before fully pulling back. "Next."
"You didn’t even let me tell you the flavor." She blinks at him, still stunned.
He smiles smugly. "Strawberry, love, I can taste it."
She rolls her eyes fondly, grabbing the next gloss, a soft, shiny pink. "This one's called Pink lemonade sorbet."
Luke raises an eyebrow. "That's surely not a real flavor."
"Try it yourself." She challenges playfully after applying it.
Of course, Luke is immediately leaning in to kiss her. When he pulls back, he hums thoughtfully. "Interesting. But not the one."
"Not even trying." She repeats, amused.
This goes on for a while. Peach candy? Good, but not great. Cotton candy? Sweet. Birthday cake? Absolutely not. Vanilla is too bland, But mint too tingly. Ginger snap? Gods, no. Chocolate—
"I like that." He hums, smiling against her lips. "But there’s gotta be a better one."
"You're doing this on purpose." She narrows her eyes, her cheeks already warm.
"I'm just taking my job very serious." he replies as she reaches for another tube of gloss.
It's a new one. She has barely used this one. It's mauve, with glittery shimmer, labeled dragon fruit. She swipes it on carefully, Luke's eyes following every movement.
And when she kisses him again, it's different. This time, there's no immediate next. Instead, he kisses deliberately slow, and she can totally feel him smiling against her lips. He doesn’t pull away, not until he absolutely has to when air is finally needed.
Even then, his hand slids up to her jaw and he presses breathless, short kisses to her mouth, lip-gloss quickly gone.
"So, what did you think?" She asks, giggling between kisses.
He doesn’t answer this time. Instead his hand tugs on her waist until he has her sitting closer, then he takes the gloss from her hands. He uncaps it and gently reapplies it to her lips himself.
Then he leans in again, lips curving into a grin as they brush hers once more.
"Mhm" he hums between kisses, hand holding her cheek. "Where do you buy this? I'll make sure you never run out of it."
After that, she uses the same lip gloss almost every day.
And almost every day, it's quickly gone once Luke starts kissing her.

When Luke introduced you to just a sliver of what actual freedom, you yearned for more.
Freedom wasn’t running from the cops and partying every night. Freedom wasn’t skipping class just for the fun of it. Freedom wasn’t doing batshit crazy things under the excuse of “free will”.
Freedom was, to you, having fun—being a normal young adult without worrying about your parents’ opinion.
Between the last month and a half of classes, Luke made it his personal mission to let you fully experience your freedom. Though it was proving to be difficult.
Everytime you did something that would cause your parents to turn their faces away in clear disappointment, a nagging feeling pulled at the back of your mind.
For example, this weekend Luke, you and a couple of others went out to a house party. You were dancing with Luke when you felt guilt linger at the back of your mind. To party so carelessly knowing your parents would be disappointed—part of you wanted to forget their opinions and judgement. The other part of you wanted to tone it down at the party; lessen their disappointment.
It was like the devil and angel permanently moved to your shoulders to torment you.
Which is why you were about to do this.
Was it stupid? Yes. Will you get hurt? 100% Did you trust Luke enough? Somewhat.
“I want you to decide what you want to do—not for the sake of your parents or me or our friends. Make this choice because it’s what you want.” Luke called you late, one night. His voice firm, unwavering.
You wanted this.
Alcohol buzzed in your veins; temporarily silencing the devil and angel. The guilt that crept up on you was gone. You weren’t so far gone you couldn’t tell from left and right, but just enough to not feel guilty about anything.
Again. Was it stupid? Yes.
Will you get hurt? Maybe.
Did you trust Luke? Without a doubt.
Chris, Clarisse, Silena, Luke and you, the usual group, were kicked out of study hall, for disturbance of peace or whatever. Classes were canceled due to AC going down and you were going to study? This must’ve been a sign from the universe. Which led the group to a lake.
Now this was “public disturbance”
Tucked beneath the dense forest on the outskirts of campus, laid a cool lake. With the coming of summer sun, this had been a crucial hangout spot.
Would your parents freak about you jumping into a lake with gross bacteria and possible diseases? Absolutely.
Your childhood consisted of more “inside” activities. Rather than playing outside with your friends, scrapping knees, and such—you had the read a book on the couch as the clock ticks drove you insane.
Silena and you stood on the edge of a decently high ledge. Luke was swimming below. He had already tested the depth of the water. Chris’ speaker lit up in different colors as it played the song. His arm around Clarisse as he held a beer.
“Ready?” Silena turned to you. Her cheeks pink due to alcohol consumption.
“Ready.” You squeezed her hand.
The beat dropped. Silena and you jumped. The cold water engulfing you. The rush felt terribly addicting to you, sobering you up all too quickly. Yet the giddiness of it all provided a different high.
You broke through the surface and arms wrapped around your waist to keep you afloat. You weren’t the strongest swimmer. A laugh erupted from the depths of your soul as Luke wrapping an arm around his neck. His smile matching yours. The sun beared down on the lake, glittering the water’s surface.
Since when did he smile like that? Like you were the only person in the world. Like you were the brightest star in the sky.
Clarisse’s shouts of protest pull you out of your head. Chris is carrying her bridal style, a shit eating grin on his face as he jumps in with her. The afternoon was wasted away at the lake, sunbathing, swimming and drinking.
Your head buzzing with dopamine as you walked to Chris’ car. Luke insisted you wore his dry t-shirt. It was baggy and your wet bathing suit would affect it less. He insisted and made the lame excuse of it being boyfriend material 101.
His t-shirt smelled like him. A mix of sandalwood and vanilla, but you could hardly think about it when the windows were down, blasting music. The perfect summer vibes. Your heart beating fast due to the excitement and not anything else.
You hadn’t noticed at the time, but alcohol did more than just silence the angel and devil.
Whatever you had that afternoon, the freedom mixed with the alcohol and pure, raw happiness, you wanted to experience more of it. A time where you can forget about your parents’ and aunts and uncles future judgmental stares and rude comments.
“Y’know, I appreciate you toughing this out with me.” You spoke up one night.
Luke took you out to help you experience more of your newfound freedom. Which actually was just stargazing on the roof of his car.
Well…you supposed it worked. You didn’t care for your family’s opinion at the moment, even though you knew they chastise you for hanging out with the “bad influence”.
“I’m still in it for the trip, sweetheart.” Luke teased. His eyes darting from each star in the sky to your face. You were oblivious to his gaze, focused on the constellations above.
“I mean it. This fake dating must be a huge strike to your charming lady killer aura.” You sat up on your elbows, speaking in a joking tone. You hardly noticed he was looking at you already.
“Yeah, puts a real damper to my chick magnet having a fake girlfriend.” Luke snorted and sat up.
“You’ll be free soon enough.” You rolled your eyes.
A comfortable silence settles over the two of you. You’ve been best friends since freshman year. It was only natural this would happen and besides there is no feelings attached. A little revenge and you still keep your friendship. A damn good deal if you every had one.
This was something you wanted to do. You had to do. To show your parents you won’t take their crap, to show they you’re grown up.
You shout with enthusiasm. Your body sticking out of Luke’s sun roof. The wind catching in your hair as the warm yellow lights of the tunnel illuminated the space. You felt free and unrestricted and awfully happy.
The best feeling in the world.
“I want a turn after!” Luke shouted, knowing the wind was too loud for you to hear.
“No way!” You did hear him.
Windows were down, blasting music.
“C’mon…” He pinched your leg.
“Stop!” You squealed.
You loved the feelings that swarmed in your heart. Only for it to end when red and blue lights and loud sirens were heard. Luke and you knew the consequences of the recklessness, but as you pulled over, you couldn’t help but share a couple of laughs—like teenage girls caught doing something bad.
You’re quite happy you’re in this with your best friend and no one else.
Making new memories with no romantic feelings attached.
It was the best. The best.

You never knew what romantic attraction felt like until you saw him at Medda’s Theater with his stupid blue eyes, his stupid blonde curls, his stupid cigar, his stupid cute smile—
Davey— that new Manhattan newsie was introducing your borough, respectfully, when you saw him. He was smiling at you, more so at your whole borough, ecstatic you showed up to the strike. That smile—that stupid cute smile made your heart flutter, your stomach churn with butterflies.
Of course, you knew what family love and platonic attraction felt like—you felt that for every newsie in Brooklyn. They were your brothers and sisters by heart. Yet, he stole your heart. Bastard. You ought to soak him.
Falling in love was a weird thing to do, especially since your priority was the sell papers to survive. You find yourself thinking about Manhattan’s second after the strike is won.
It didn’t help that he hugged you when Kelly announced the strike ended in their favor or when you guys talked during celebrations that night. The memories haunted your sleep.
A loud groan escaped your lips. That stupid smile of his. Your hands going over your warm, rose colored face as you sat on your bunk. Ritz and Hotshot peeked their heads into the girls bunk room, hearing you groan.
“What’re moping and griping about?” Hotshot asked, crossing his arms. His thick accent ringing in your ears.
You turn to look at you friends and remove the hands from your face. Before you could get a word in, Ritz is cupping your cheeks and feeling your forehead. “You’re burning up, Y/N!” Ritz exclaimed and shook your head side to side, lightly, to inspect your red cheeks.
“Ritz, please—” You begged the auburn haired girl to let your face go.
“Spot is going to be worried.”
“Ritz—”
“I think we have medicine somewhere.”
“Ritz, hang on—“
“Water and rest, that’s what my mama says.”
“I don’t have—”
“Spot ain’t letting you sell tomorrow.”
“Ritz!”
You shouted finally getting her attention. Ritz stopped her worrying. Hotshot stood up straight with raised eyebrows. You gently put your hands on Ritz’s wrists and removed them from your face. “I ain’t sick. I ain’t coughing or feelin’ bad.”
“Then what’s got your face so red, Y/N?” Ritz asked, she titled her head ever so slightly.
“A boy.” Hotshot spoke up.
You glared at Brooklyn’s second. Were you really that readable? Hotshot had to be a fucking psychic. A smirk danced on his lips. The silence said it all.
Ritz lit up like the Fourth of July. “You like a boy!” Ritz exclaimed with a wide grin. You slapped a hand across her mouth.
“Ritz, please don’t tell the others—” You begged to convey your seriousness. “You too, Hotshot.”
Ritz, still buzzing with excitement, nodded her head. You quickly shoved Hotshot into the girls’ bunk room and shut the door. “Who is it?” Ritz asked excitedly.
You pressed your lips together in a thin line. An internal dilemma with yourself. Would you rather suffer in silence, pin over a newsie in the other side of the Brooklyn Bridge or tell two people your crush which could potentially spread throughout the borough?
You decide to tell Hotshot and Ritz. Love is too confusing for you to suffer alone.
“It’s Manhattan’s second in command.” You mumbled, twisting your fingers as your face heats up. Just thinking about Race got your stomach all twisted up in a good way.
You didn’t think they heard you, but they did. Loud in clear.
“Race? Race!” Ritz confirmed.
Hotshot raised an eyebrow in amusement. “The one that “wanders” on our turf to bet at Sheepshead?”
“Yes.” You sighed exasperatedly and fell onto your bunk. “He’s just so—”
You couldn’t find the words to describe him, but then proceeded to go on a rant about Race for 10 minutes.
It wasn’t long before everyone in Brooklyn knew of your little crush on Manhattan’s second (and probably Manhattan). It was terrible with all the teasing and the questions on what you would do.
You didn’t know what to do! You would just lay in your bed and smile stupidly when you thought about him. “Pathetically in love” is what you thought.
Stray decided to do something.
With Spot’s permission (seeing you hopelessly in love was getting in the way of selling and Brooklyn’s reputation), Stray went to Manhattan. Stray had connections there. Her boyfriend and brother lived in Manhattan’s borough.
Stray told Specs, who told Elmer, who told Henry, who told Jojo, who told Mike, who told Finch, who told Race—that you liked him. When you got word that Race knew, you panicked.
Romance like that with him. You wouldn’t know how to act, what to do, or what to say. You’ve seen romance from afar; with rich couples, elderly couples, teenagers—all types of couples!
“Ya’ gotta relax, kid.” Spot patted your back after they found you contemplating your choices on your bunk. “If Racer is as half bright as you, he’ll see you’re a real gem.”
That gave you some confidence in yourself. You shouldn’t get worked up about some boy. Taking Mac’s advice seemed like the best option. “He’s just a guy!”
But, he seems real sweet and humorous and charming and ambitious. Keyword: seems. You might be setting yourself up for failure.
After days and days of dreading what you should do, Race came walking into Brooklyn, willy nilly, specifically to Graves’ and yours selling spot.
“Heya miss, can I get a pape?” Race asked.
You weren’t paying attention and grabbed a newspaper from your bag. Seeing him in front of you with his stupid blue eyes, his stupid blonde curls, his stupid cigar, his stupid cute smile—
You froze. A blush rising to your face. You spun on your heels and walked away. A fight or flight response.
Graves grabbed you with a smirk and turned you around. “Talk to him!” Graves whispered and pushed you towards Race.
He had that charming, amused smile on his face. “Hey.” He spoke, two hands on the strap of his paper bag.
“Hey.” You croaked.
“I—uh…got word, ya like me.”
“Mhm.”
Race looked at you awkwardly. If you looked hard enough, you saw a faint faint blush on cheeks. “You—uh…wanna go to the Sheepshead with me?”
“Now?” You asked incredulously.
“Now.” Graves spoke firmly. “You can sell at Sheepshead, don’t worry. I’ll be fine by myself.”
And so, you and Race went to Sheepshead Races. You held onto his arm like one of those rich ladies would do to a gentlemen. Conversation was made, no matter how awkward it was between you two.
The Sheepshead Races were loud and lively. You usually went here with Lucky and Scope when you had downtime.
“C’mon, they’ll start soon.” Race intertwined his hands with yours and pulled you through a crowd of people. “Gotta get the best seats.”
“Isn’t that the front row?” You asked, glancing back at where you and your friends would usually sit.
“Trust me, sweetheart. These seats are better than any front row.” Race grinned.
Your heart skipped a beat.
The name “sweetheart” sounded so right from his lips.
Race took you to a chainlink fence. You were close enough to see the jockeys’ faces and the horses shaking their head. The spot was at the bottom right of the original seating, in between the commentator’s box and the vendor.
He let go of your hand to lean against the fence. You frowned slightly, missing the feeling of his hand in yours. “Better than any front seat.” He repeated softly.
“Is this how you got your name?” You gestured to the races. Your nerves slowly disappearing. You were a Brooklyn newsie for Christ’s sake! Be confident!
“What?” Race shook his head as if you broke him out of his trance. “Oh—uh…kinda! That and I would be the first to the circulation gate. I’m pretty fast for a newsie.”
“You’re pretty for a newsie.” You responded without missing a beat.
“What’s that?” Race leaned in to hear you better. A smirk on his face.
Before you could respond, a gunshot sounded. Hooves slammed on the dirt track. The commentator spoke enthusiastically about the race. In no time, the horses and jockeys were passing you. The wind from them passing knocked off your newsie cape. You could practically see the sweat on the jockeies’ faces.
“Careful.” Race snaked an arm around your waist as soon as the horses passed. He pulled you towards him, concerned about your safety.
You yelped going face first into his chest. Race chuckled awkwardly. You pulled away slightly, but not out of his arms. You two met eyes, just staring. The sound of the hooves faded away.
His blue eyes, the same color as the East River, the same color as a beautiful day. No words were shared between you two. Race gulped. The tension palpable.
Cheering and groans were heard as the commentator announced the outcome. “If—you couldn’t tell…” Race spoke nervously, never tearing his eyes away from yours. “I think your cute—hell, I think your badass for being a Brooklyner.”
Usually when you saw a lady and gentleman like this, they share a kiss. Your heart was beating out of your chest. You never kissed anyone, but this seemed like the perfect moment.
“I don’t know how to kiss…” You admitted quietly.
“We don’t gotta kiss.” Race assured.
“But I want too.”
“…”
“…”
“Can I kiss ya then?”
“Please.”
The minute his lips met yours, the whole world froze. Your stomach twisted in a good warm feeling. Electricity and sparks flying with a single touch to the lips. Your brain was blanking. No words could describe a first kiss.
“Was that…okay?” Race pulled away.
“Better than okay.” You nodded firmly and pressed another kiss to his lips.
Both Race and you got a little more confident and kissed each other back. It only lasted a few seconds, but it was sweet. “There’s more to Brooklyn than the Sheepshead Races.” You pulled away this time.
“I figured.” Race laughed and ran a hand through his blonde curls. He picked up your newsie’s cap that flew off. Brushing off the dirt, he placed the cap back on your head.
“I wanna show you more places in Brooklyn.” You spoke without even realizing what you were saying.
“A date then.” Race smirked.
“A date.” You confirmed.
“Great.”

Wherever Clyde goes, Bonnie follows.
You’ve found yourself to be a permanent resident of Hermes Cabin. Another year goes by which meant another year of being unclaimed. Multitude of wishes and prayers are wasted: at this point those wishes, offerings and prayers look like pathetic begging.
You’ll forever be an unclaimed camper.
And you’ve accepted that. If you had been claimed, then you wouldn’t get the privilege of Travis and Connor stealing ice cream when you cover them or the privilege of Chris coming to you about his girl problems or the privilege of sharing a bunk with Luke Castellan.
What Chiron and Mr. D don’t know won’t hurt them.
It is a nice turnout because while you share a bed with the love of your life, another kid doesn’t have to sleep on the crowded floor.
Besides the fact you weren’t claimed, everything at camp was great. You didn’t feel alone or isolated anymore. You felt at home at Camp. You had a wonderful boyfriend and even greater friends (as corny as it sounds).
Until, Percy Jackson arrived at camp. Now, don’t twist this in the wrong way—Percy is just the sweetest kid and you were sympathetic to him losing him mom.
It was during Capture the Flag when you realized everything you knew was gone. You couldn’t resent Percy for that. Only your dad.
Luke triumphantly held the red team’s flag as the blue team retreated to the lake’s beach. Celebration paired with cheers and hollers. A proud smile as one of the campers hooked their arm around your shoulder, screaming your ear off.
Some of the campers were making a list of demands that the Red Team had to accommodate to when Percy’s shouting interrupted all of that.
You took off your helmet to see Percy in the lake. The culprit, Annabeth. Athena’s daughter was always two steps ahead of everyone, in Luke’s words. She seems to know something everyone else didn’t.
Luke looked distraught and shocked when it happened. A glowing trident hovering over Percy’s head. An outward statement claiming he is Poseidon’s son.
Yet, that same glowing trident was above your head. You felt your throat close up. So long…so long and now your dad claims you when Percy arrives.
It was common knowledge that Hades, Zeus and Poseidon made a pact to not father any more half-bloods due to destruction and war and whatever. But, what now? Poseidon claimed his son and daughter. For what? To boast? To showboat?
Questions kept ringing in your head. The life you knew gone. No more ice cream from Travis and Connor. No more information of Chris’ recent crushes. No more…sharing a bunk with your boyfriend.
“Poseidon.” Chiron trotted over to Percy. He gave you a smile. You were claimed! It’s what you always hoped and dreamed for. You should be ecstatic. Right? “Earthshaker, Stormbringer, your godly parent.”
It was inevitable. You weren’t destined to destroy or aid the world because you weren’t sixteen anymore. You doubt you were destined for anything.
Was this some fucked up way of your pops telling you he still cares? He still sees you? That he’s there for you?
It took him so many fucking years to claim you as his.
And the fact he did it when his son arrived at Camp Half-Blood. Did he want a boy to be the prophetic savior of the world?
Oh, so he wants to say he’s been there for you this whole time? Luke has been there. Cabin Eleven has been there, not your deadbeat pops. It wasn’t a surprise you joined Kronos so quickly.
You knew Luke was succumbing to the nightmares that plagued him every night. The voice in his head to revive the Titan. Now, you didn’t have anything against the other gods or Percy. It really was just some ol’ rebelling against your dear old dad.
Percy was tense staying still. The scorpion on his knee. He looked at it wearily. Luke was explaining his reasoning for betraying Camp. You couldn’t blame him. After so many years of neglect and the spirals his mother went through, you felt he had every right to be angry. As did you.
“The gods are my enemy, Percy. Poseidon made a mistake—he made a mistake by neglecting your sister.” Luke pointed Backbiter at the boy.
“Luke…” You placed a hand on his shoulder. His tense shoulders seemingly relaxed.
He let his arm fall to his side. He looked over his shoulder at you. A mix of a soft and intense gaze. Luke only wanted to defend your dignity, your honor, your glory. He thought it was unforgivable that Poseidon would claim you that day of all the days you prayed and wished and begged.
He’s seen how desperate you’ve gotten. How many tears shed. How many times he’s had to comfort you because you don’t feel like you belonged. Kronos would provide a New World. A new Golden Age where you didn’t have to suffer with a shitty father anymore.
Your palm held his scarred cheek. He met your lips in a soft kiss. Everything would be okay if you were with one another. Love is a very powerful thing to wield after all.
“I’m sorry, Percy.” You apologized, looking over at your half-brother. The pit scorpion on the back of his hand. “It’s…it’s nothing against you.”
You attempted to find the words to explain your situation. Luke’s calloused hand held yours gently. It was time to go. To flee from Camp.
“It’s our father that I hate, not you. You—you have to understand.” You hastily explained. “He left me neglected for year. I was content staying at Hermes Cabin and—he decided to claim me when I finally had a place here.”
“The world will remember us, Percy. Olympus will remember not to fuck with us—our dads will remember not to neglect any other half-blood.” Luke stated and twisted Backbiter in his hand. A determined glint in his eyes. Kronos’ calling him away to revive him already.
“Goodbye, Percy. This is the new Golden Age. You won’t be apart of it.” Luke slashed an arc with Backbiter, creating a rip through time and space to travel. The scorpion lunged.
You hesitated a moment, seeing your half-brother in agony. Luke told him sixty seconds. He’ll make it. He’s Percy Jackson after all.
You couldn’t delay your departure any longer. Luke needed someone by his side. To keep his sanity with Kronos calling out to him so often.
Wherever Clyde goes, Bonnie follows.
You departed from Camp, not knowing that would be the last time you see your beloved home.

You only live once. That was the motto you tried to live by. Albeit, the motto was stupid and could get your ass landed in jail sometimes.
The motto was how you were able to get the Dodge Mason to go out with you. It was how you were able to jump the cliff during the first challenge during Panic. It was also how you were disqualified during the third challenge.
Breaking and entering was not your forte, nor was avoiding the batshit, crazy Spurlock’s traps. You fractured your arm running from the bastard with a personal item of his. Fearing for your life, you tripped, dropped your item and ran—praying you would get out with no bullet holes in your body.
Your will to live trumped over your desire to have any real fun in this town.
You thought it was pathetic for not being able to keep your item in your hand long enough to advance. Your boyfriend was just thankful you were alive.
Yet, when he landed himself in the hospital after the fourth challenge—the mindsets switched.
“Promise me, you’ll be careful?” You spoke the night of the fourth challenge. Dodge and you were on his couch watching whatever movie was on.
“Yeah, ‘course.” Dodge agreed, looking at you. His arms wrapped around your body tightly. Dodge leaned down and kissed the top of your head.
His reassurance provided you a little more comfort than before, yet with Panic—expect the unexpected.
No one expected the local haunted house to burst up in flames, nor for a few Panic players to end up in the hospital cause of it.
“You are a goddamn liar, Dodge Mason!” You accused your boyfriend the minute you stepped into his hospital room.
Dodge jumped slightly at the sound of your tone, blankly staring at you. You attempted to hit him to get your point across that this was serious because he was just looking at you. Staring like everything was fine. He landed himself in the hospital because of a stupid fucking cash prize.
“Don’t do that. Don’t wanna hurt yourself more.” Dodge warned with stern, yet soft voice. He caught your casted hand before you could do any real damage to him or yourself.
“You gave me a goddamn heart attack.” Your hands tensed up and sat down on his hospital bed. “The fire—I didn’t know if you or Heather or Nat were okay,”
“I’m sorry, okay?” Dodge let go of your cast. He quickly looked around for a cop or any staff member. “I was reaching for a clue in an outlet and next thing I know, lights out. I didn’t even know there was a fire.”
You pressed your lips into a thin line. “Electrocuted?”
“Electrocuted.” Dodge laughed slightly like he couldn’t believe himself. “I think my heart stopped.”
“Don’t joke like that.” You gave him a pointed look.
“I’m being serious!” Dodge gave you his signature boyish smile. “You know how you compare me to a black cat? I just used one of my nine lives.”
“You’re stupid.” You failed to hide the grin creeping up on your face.
Even when you were supposed to be angry at him, he never failed to make you smile. “I mean it!” Dodge exclaimed. “I’m at eight lives.”
The two of you went silent, just beaming, grinning at one another. As the silence grew, the smiles faded. You were the one to speak up first. “What do you think will happen now with…?” Panic.
“I don’t know. It’s just a minor setback and we’ll finish this. It won’t get canceled.” Dodge admitted and laid back in the hospital bed.
“Dodge…you landed yourself in the hospital because of this stupid game. You could’ve suffered something worse than blacking out—what if something happened internally?” You stressed. “And—and you still want to risk your life for what—?”
Dodge interrupted. “For Dayna…” A small pause.“…and for you.” Dodge added quietly.
“You don’t gotta win for me.” You whispered to him. “If it’ll get you killed, don’t win for me.”
Dodge opened his arms and reluctantly you laid next to him. His arm snaked around your waist, soothingly caressing it. “What if it’s like third times a charm? You get hurt during Panic again and you land yourself six feet under—?”
“Have a little faith in me.” Dodge hummed and looked down at your face. “I promised you I’ll be careful and smart about things. I won’t break those promises.”
You gave him another pointed look, knowing you won’t be able to convince him to stop. “You just win for Dayna.”
“Justice for Dayna.” With the arm wrapped around your waist, he held up one finger as he spoke about his motivations to win. “Getting out of this shitty town for you.” Another finger went up before he kissed your head.
“I think I’ll be fine in this lousy town if you’re here.” You shifted your head to look up at Dodge.
“And those dreams of wanting to see Italy?France? Spain?” Dodge asked softly.
“Pipe dreams.” You smiled dismissively. “Just something to keep me going.”
“You know the pot this year is huge. Once I win, I’ll take you anywhere you want. Out of state, out of country, out of world. Anywhere.” Dodge promised.
“That is a large if, Dodge. Gonna pay for that with a few of your lives left?” You teased him.
“Darling, I would do anything to make your dreams come true. Even if it means paying with my lives.” Dodge kissed your forehead, then your cheeks, then your nose, eyelids, chin, jaw. You giggled as he left butterfly kisses on your face.
“Dodge—Dodge, stop it!” You giggled, but he silenced your protests with a kiss to your lips. You could feel him smiling.
“Forgive me for losing one of my lives?” Dodge asked as he kept kissing and kissing—knowing the answer. Your angry and worry simmered long before he could even ask for forgiveness.
“You get hurt again and I’m going to kill you.” You threatened, trying to keep your composure.
“I know, sweetheart. I know.” Dodge mumbled as his lips met yours. He made the same threat when you broke your wrist.

You grabbed your tote bag, filled with items essential for a picnic in the strawberry field. Hiking up your long white skirt, you travel down the steps of your cabin to be met with a smile worth a thousand suns.
“Ready?” Sam asked. He took the tote bag from your grasp to carry it.
“Mhm.” You hummed, paired with a smile.
Sam grasped your hand gently as you walk through camp to the strawberry fields. A mandatory picnic, according to you, after training day after day after day.
Sam had this look on his face. His eyes twinkled in admiration and love. Scarred hand against yours. You found the scar on the palm and back of his hand quite interesting. “How was your morning?” He asked politely.
”Tiring. You would not believe my half-siblings. They—” You went off on a tangent. You always did. Sam seemed to hang on to your every word.
You met Sam at one of the many bonfires the Camp had at the end of the day. The fire was burning a bright purple, climbing over 10 feet. It reflected the joyous energy of the campers.
It had been a month since Percy completed his quest, since Luke left camp.
Sam sat next to you, thinking his jokes and subtle timid charm would win you over. And it did. You found it quite cute.
Sam was perfect in every way. He’d walk you from your cabin (or anywhere for that matter) to the dining hall. He made a bracelet for you with your favorite colors after indirectly learning your favorite colors. He says everything you need to hear. It’s like he was created to be the perfect boyfriend.
But it doesn’t entirely distract you from your past relationship with Luke Castellan.
Albeit messy, your time with Luke was exhilarating. Luke and you would fight and scream about your problems. It wasn’t perfect nor all sunshine and rainbows most of the time, but Luke and you made sure to let the other know you loved them.
No matter the circumstances or the many silent treatments.
Because you can’t have a healthy relationship without problems, right?
You were clueless on the love department. Luke was your first boyfriend and you hardly felt experienced enough now that you were with Sam.
(“Hey, what was that?” Luke asked, concerned. The water shimmering like they were diamonds. Campers from Hermes and various other cabins were swimming. The counselors were the life guards, switching duties in shifts. Currently it was you and Luke.
“What?” You responded, dazed. Slowly, you turn your head to look at Luke.
You were in your head. Luke knew that. “Where’s you just go?” He knew it too well that he pushed and pushed for answers causing and argument. He just wants to help.
You faded from the living world again, stuck in your head. Yet, water splashed on your leg snapped you out. “What?”
“You just went somewhere.” Luke stated firmly and placed a hand on your shoulder. You cursed yourself in your head. Luke was able to read you well, too well.
“I went no where.” You denied.
“You can tell me anything, y’know.” Luke reassured.
“I know.” Your attention was back on the swimming campers. Luke’s hands fell on top of yours.
“So tell me, what’s bothering you.”
“Nothing.”
“Something.”
“Nothing”
“Something.”
“It’s nothing, for fucks sake, Castellan”
“It’s better to get it off your chest, babe.”
“Just—just, drop it. I went no where. Nothing is bothering me.” You felt your temper rise. The back and forth irritating you. This was how it always ended. His concern caused your irritation which eventually ended in either of you walking away to blow off steam. Only to make it up later.)
“And you would not believe it! Kayla and Will had to kick so many campers out because they whined about small cuts. It was all to see our new half-sister!” Sam gestured with his words with you.
“Mhm.” You smiled and nod your head, hoping he didn’t notice you zoning out.
Sam just stares at you, admiration in his eyes. Thankfully, he didn’t notice you zoning out. He just smiles and squeezes your hand. Your heart stung with guilt. Reminiscing about the past when your future was right beside you.
The two of you spent the last hour on a hill overlooking the strawberry fields. The sun was high in the sky, but it wasn’t overbearing nor did it make you sweaty and gross.
You can practically hear Luke’s laugh fading, as if he was right next to you. What was it that Silena and Drew said?
That you could never get over your first love. That they are hard to forget because they the past lover leaves a searing feeling in your mind. That they are your first love.
Yeah, that sounds about right.
And it’s not like you were using Sam to get over Luke, no. You loved Sam, truly, but you were still wrung up over Luke. Sam was everything you could ask for in a guy, but Luke—Luke was the first. He was perfect to you in his own way.
Sure, there were arguments and silent treatments and pettiness, but Luke and you never broke up, it wasn’t a toxic relationship. Not at all.
The conch for lunch blew throughout camp. You wondered what was conjured up in the camp kitchen today. Sam and you packed the blanket back into the bag (he carried the tote bag, no matter how girly it may be).
Hand in hand, you and Sam travel through the strawberry fields to the pavilion for lunch. A comfortable silence stirring between the two of you.
You look up at Sam and move to kiss his cheek. A gesture of reassurance for him and yourself, one to remind you that you loved him along with Luke.
The way you loved is difficult. The way you loved is unpredictable. You know though, you know for certain that no matter how many loves you have, Luke is your first.
Damn him for betraying Camp, for siding with Kronos. Damn your first love for cursing your heart with memories upon memories of him.
