I recommend based on your preferences because I’m smart like that. If you tell me the last game you played was LEGO Racers circa 1999, I’m probably not going to recommend you play Alien Isolation as your reintroduction into video games. But my default recommendation is probably Outer Wilds - usually people seeking new games are burnt out by the games that they do play - those games are typically online, competitive, or blockbuster; and they’ve rarely engaged with games as an artistic medium. Movies and books challenge you, video games are no different at their best. No one enjoys a frictionless experience, regardless of how polished and flashy the game may be, so I try dropping them in the deep end a lil bit.
