new beginnings- simple banishing and attracting spell! (baby witches encouraged)

foreword: this spell does include fire! make sure to read the safety precautions and read the entire spell through before attempting. this spell works best during full or waxing moons or big leaps of faith in your life.

any creative liberty can be taken with any parts of the spell! you may do this with as many people as you like as long as all participants keep the fire safety elements in mind.

i did not take inspiration for this spell from any other source and all information here was written by me, from my own experience. i don't claim to be the first person to do this, but if you share the spell on social media or with a friend, please give credit where credit is due.

i have been a practicing witch for 3+ years and do not claim to be extremely experienced or all-knowing.

please do not start debates or send me hate for the "legitimacy" of my practice or personal beliefs surrounding witchcraft and magick. questions about the spell or elements of such are welcomed, however!

REQUIREMENTS:

-bowl, cauldron, cup, jar, or anything else capable of holding a folded piece of paper (must be metal or glass, be prepared to burn something in it)

-candle/s (scented is fine)

-paper (any, as long as it's burnable)

-writing utensil

-string/twine (not plastic)

-matches/lighter

-water bottle (fast pouring, within reaching)

-spray bottle (on mist setting, within reach)

-a safe & quiet ventilated location (outdoors is fine! smoke alarms should be off or out of smoke range and any windows should be open)

OPTIONAL:

-flower seeds

-salt

-any herbs you'd like, as long as they're burnable. research first.

-scissors

-tweezers/tongs

SAFETY MEASURES:

-keep the spray bottle on-hand in case the smoke gets nasty

-keep the water bottle ready and any flammable objects away from flame

-smoke alarms remain off or out of reach

-keep pets away

-test burn a piece of paper beforehand to make sure you're prepared

-make sure you're prepared to handle burning paper with your bare hands or with tweezers/tongs

SPELL:

1. light a candle, if desired for burning (other option is matches/lighter)

2. take a piece of paper and write a list of things you want to banish or remove from your life. be as specific as you'd like, and take the time beforehand to plan. put intention down as you're writing & imagine the things on your list leaving your life. you can also write any relevant sigils.

3. tear or cut the paper so it is only as big as it needs to be. (second option: tear the paper into tiny pieces, collecting them on a regular sheet of paper. while envisioning tearing apart what you desire to banish or purge.)

4. fold the paper and wrap it in twine/string. if you know knot magick, feel free to use it to tie the knot. use as much twine as desired & cinch to taste. (second option: fold the sheet of paper to wrap your shredded list and tie with string. tape not recommended.) imagine or visualize this as trapping the negativity and/or you taking control.

5. make sure your bowl/cauldron is on hand before holding your wrapped spell over the candle flame, using tongs or bare hands if you'd like (if using a stick candle or lighter/match, feel free to put the spell in the bowl first if you so wish). once lit, place in bowl. try not to drop it too fast or let it go out once lit, but it's fine if either happens. if it goes out, carefully pick it up again and relight or wait until it's cooled down to retry.

f. instead of speaking or thinking words to banish or dispel the contents of the list, think/say words like "i welcome you into my heart and life. i call for these things to come in abundance. i trust that in their own time, i will have all i desire." e myself from you, and you me. i trust that in time, you will purge from my life " (creative liberty can be taken!)

7. wait until the spell burns out to remove paper. put out any embers and store in a glass or metal container until you can bury the ashes. (optional: bury with seeds to symbolize your fresh, positive experiences being given life with the ashes of your negative experiences or relationships.)

8. wait for any other participants to do their own burning. again, watch for smoke. stay respectfully quiet and help your fellow witches by adding your own visualization of their sorrows or negativity leaving their life.

9. cleanse the space and take several minutes to meditate or set final intentions in the aftermath. "reset" your energy for the next half of the spell.

10. repeat this process for attracting positivity, with the following changes:

a. write things you wish to attract or welcome into your life instead of things you wish to banish or purge

b. instead of tearing the paper as a second option to folding it, you could roll the paper

c. be gentle and unrestrictive with your twine. instead of thinking of it as "containing" the contents of the list, imagine it as "centralizing" the contents to draw them to you

d. you may add seeds to the bowl or put them into your paper, if possible, to symbolize the positivity blossoming into your life

e. once lit, watch the flames and imagine your list being released into the air, moving around you and any other members of the group (however, focus on yourself. the spell is for you!). imagine the words calling out to this positivity, inviting it.

f. instead of speaking or thinking words to banish or dispel the contents of the list, think/say words like "i welcome you into my heart and life. i call for these things to come in abundance. i trust that in their own time, i will have all i desire." (creative liberty can, again, be taken!)

g. instead of burying your ashes, you could also find other uses in your craft. options include things like using them in a black salt, adding them to salt or herb mixtures you use to charm objects, carrying them on you to attract the contents to you better, or even scatter them on the wind, in a stream, or any other (preferably natural and within reason) space to scatter your positivity as long as you trust that the contents of the list have been freed and are now just for you.

REMEMBER:

1. this spell may not do all the work for you, and you have to understand that there is a limit to what it can do. the spell won't change your physical features or personality drastically or overnight. if you want something that involves other people (and is within your reach), work for it yourself. spells are asking the universe (or your own subconscious) for a push in the right direction- it's up to *you* to get yourself there a lot of the time. cut out those toxic friends, ask them out, tell that person you like their outfit, etc.. it starts and ends with you!

2. there is no "wrong way" for the spell to go. if your paper won't light or won't stay lit or won't burn- it's no big deal. that doesn't mean it won't work. keep your patience. dissolving the paper in water will also work in a pinch. you can also interpret parts as a sign- for example, if your paper won't stay lit without your help, you could take it as your list being very centered around you getting out there and making things happen!

3. not everything will work, and not everything will work right away. have faith, but don't get too down if it doesn't happen!

4. this spell is not a substitution for professional help and should not be treated as such.

5. doing this spell with a friend, or while calling somebody with video, is recommended for fire safety purposes. if you get too focused, you may not notice any dangers popping up.

6. if your bowl is a flimsy metal, it could very well melt

7. *there is no right or wrong way to do this spell*. if you need to use water to put out the flame, or you don't feel a massive change, or you get distracted or feel intrusive thoughts, don't get yourself down. nobody and nothing is perfect, and you don't need to get it flawlessly right the first try. hardships are what make magick work- keep working, edit or personalize where needed, drop this tactic entirely, or anything else you need. good things will come, and bad things will be banished. magick is a very personal thing and if my methods don't work for you, then they don't need to.

8. be aware of ventilation and fire alarms!

SUGGESTED:

1. after i did the spell, i removed all the spell materials from my space and spent a half hour doing self-care. i found myself drained and extremely tired afterwards, but felt much better after thinking of my self-care as kickstarting the positivity rolling in. i suggest you do the same- it's fantastic

2. don't take yourself too seriously! especially with friends, giggles happen and you can get distracted. don't try to force seriousness when laughing or joking feels better or more natural. a forced atmosphere is bad for spellwork!

3. personalize, personalize, personalize

4. be prepared for emotions to come to the surface. be gentle with yourself and others, especially after casting, and sleep or do something relaxing to reset or relax your state of mind if you feel agitated or tired

MY EXPERIENCE WITH THE SPELL:

i did this on new year's with a good friend! there's a reason i have many of these safety mentions- i forgot to open a window or have a water bottle next to me while casting and we had to be a thousand times more jumpy with the fire aspects. i'm a big baby with fire, too, so i kept dropping my papers and needing to relight them.

my negativity banishment burned long and hot- the flames were licking over the (curved inward) rim of the cauldron as if reaching for me, at a height that honestly surprised me. it burned for such a long time that the cauldron melted- the arms falling off and droplets of metal sliding onto the floor as the cauldron tipped forwards me.

this got actually concerning, and the smoke became so thick we ended up putting out the flame. i poured water into the bowl as my friend sprayed the air to make sure any smoke didn't reach the fire alarm. after the danger passed, we were giddy and started to laugh at the situation before disposing of the forbidden tea into a lidded glass jar (that i ended up placing outside for the night).

my positivity paper wouldn't light or stay lit- which makes sense considering how much it pertained to things i wanted to do- and eventually i was left with ashes and a damp piece of paper reading "to attract".

when my friend burned their papers, during the negativity spell my skin was crawling and i felt slightly ill until it burned out. i interpreted it as feeling the power of them banishing the negativity- which they reported feeling as well as i burned my spell.

Crystals

Crystals

~ What are Crystals and what are they used for?

Most crystals ( in this case including gems, rocks, precious stones, semi-precious stones, and simple stones) are of mineral origin. Crystals, like amethyst, come out of the ground naturally faceted and don’t need to be changed in anyway. Diamonds, for example, come out of the ground equally as rough, but are usually polished and cut into intricate styles.

For many years, crystal have been used as a tool to aid spiritual healing, psychic development, and meditation.

~ How can I incorporate Crystals into my everyday life?

You can carry around your crystals. This way you can feel your crystals energy when needed. Place them in a little sachet or pouch and they are ready to go!

Infuse your water with your clean crystals. This is a fast way to feel your crystals energy.

Decorate your magickal space and/or surroundings with crystals.

Meditate with your crystals. Just spend a minimum of 30 seconds with each crystal. Hold it in your hands, close your eyes, and feel its energy soaking into your skin.

How to Set Intentions

Always in witchcraft there is going to be a spell or ritual that asks you to set your intentions in order to reach the goal desired. We always hear “set your intentions”, but we never get to hear how to set your intentions. Here, I’m going to give you a step by step guide on how to set your intentions for rituals, spells and anything else that requires your focus.

1. Write down your primary ideas for what you want your intention to be about

Example:  I want to be rich, I want to be able to buy things without worry of money, I want to have more tangible assets

2. Analyze your ideas for common themes. What is the main goal you are trying to reach?

Example: Money, Abundance, Wealth

3. Use the themes found to identify your intention. Always be as precise as possible.

Example: I will have an abundance of money, I will have excess cash to live comfortably

4. Write your intention on a specific piece of paper with as few words as possible, but be very specific.

These simple steps will allow you to understand how to set your intentions in an exact manner which will strengthen any spell or ritual you plan on doing. I hope this helped. Thank you for reading!

How To Set Intentions

Guide to Ancestor Veneration

What is ancestor veneration?

Veneration simply means "to have great respect". I choose to use the term "ancestor veneration" over "ancestor work" because I believe that if you want to work with your ancestors, then you need to start by having a strong sense of respect for them. Your ancestors aren't attack dogs, nor are they slaves. They are not there for you to give orders to or treat with disrespect. Your ancestors are your family. Your ancestors are your guides and your protectors. They are the ones who came before you and are the very reason you were able to exist.

I say this because I often see people in the witchcraft and magic community try to treat spirits like attack dogs and slaves. Hell, I've seen people treat deities as such. It's pretty disturbing to me. Don't be one of those people.

Working with your ancestors is similar to all other forms of spirit work, though I wouldn't approach it the same. Your ancestors were once human. They had flaws in life and chances are some of them carried those flaws into death, too. They have their own morals and values. Not all of them deserve respect, and chances are there are some ancestors you don't want in your space. I'll address this later, though.

How do I determine who my ancestors are?

If you were raised by your blood relatives, this may be a little easier for you. The first thing you will want to do is ask your living family what they know. Parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents... Ask them what they know and remember about your past relatives. Try to write down names when you hear them. If you are lucky enough to have relatives who keep detailed documentation about your ancestry, that is even better.

Depending on where you live, public documentation can be of great help. Old newspaper articles, obituaries... Try to figure out how you can make connections this way. You'd be surprised by the information you can find.

If you really want to dive deep into your heritage, ancestry DNA kits can help you with that. It can be expensive, and the databases of these companies vary, but it can be helpful. Some can connect you to distant relatives that have used the same ancestry DNA company. They can also give you a very general idea about where your ancestors came from.

If you were adopted, or generally have zero information regarding your blood relatives, that is okay. Your adopted family is still your family, depending on how you view them. If you love your adopted family, and truly consider them family, then you can choose to work with them, too.

I personally don't believe in the whole "your blood determines who your family is" thing. Family is more complex than that to me. That being said, if your parents or other relatives have any close friends that you grew up with, they could be considered family, too. Sometimes we are lucky enough to have people come into our lives and treat us like family. If you grew up with anybody like this, and consider them to be family, they can count as an ancestor too.

What if my ancestors were bad people?

I most commonly see this question being asked by white people. They usually refer to their racist, white ancestors. I even see people go as far as to claim white people can't work with their ancestors because of this.

Here is the thing: everybody has at least a few shitty people for ancestors. Your race does not make your immune to having bad people in your ancestry.

It is up to you to look at the ancestors you know of and determine who you want in your space. You are not required to work with every single ancestor you have. You have the right to say no to an ancestor and tell them to stay away from you. You do not need to work with racist, homophobic, transphobic, or whatever else ancestors.

You can set boundaries with your ancestors.

How do I start ancestor veneration once I determine who my ancestors are and which ones I want to honor?

Start by considering an ancestor altar. This can be easy for those of you who are in the broom closet due to hateful family. You can always pass it off as a little memorial spot for your past loved ones (this isn't even a false claim- an ancestor altar is literally a place to pay your respects). If you are able to, start collecting things for an ancestor altar.

The first things I suggest looking for are photos of your ancestors and things that belonged to them, if possible. You can add jewelry, things they used for their favorite hobbies... If you can't find the exact things they used for their hobbies, you could consider buying something that they would have used.

Your ancestors will need offerings, too. I know people tend to get a little intimidated about giving spirits regular offerings, so I suggest starting small and try keeping up with a schedule. Dedicate a specific day of the week to start. Once you feel comfortable with that day, make it two days of the week. If you are comfortable giving them offerings every day, even better!

Some of the easiest offerings you can give your ancestors include coins, cash, flowers, incense, candles, tobacco products and the sacred text of their chosen religion (such as a Bible). You can also include more personal offerings, such as a handwritten letter from yourself or a piece of artwork you created for them.

Food and liquid offerings, in my opinion, are a necessity. Your ancestors deserve to be well fed, too! They may not be here in their physical form to enjoy it, but it is still appreciated regardless. Get some plates and cups specifically for the ancestors. Give them a small portion of food before you eat. Leave it on the ancestor altar until breakfast/lunch/dinner time is over. What you choose to do with the food after is up to you. Some people throw it away, others eat it themselves. Drinks are important, too. Water is the most basic liquid offering you can give. I suggest changing water offerings out daily, if you are comfortable with daily offerings. You can also offer coffee, teas, soda and alcohol.

How do I communicate with my ancestors?

For you, it is as simple as speaking. Just talk to them like you would with your living relatives. This should be an obvious thing, but I have met people who have never considered just... talking. You don't need to use divination every time you want to talk to your ancestors. Just talk out loud to them. Whenever you give them offerings at their altar, thank them for any help they give you and talk to them a bit. Let them know you are thinking of them.

In terms of figuring out messages your ancestors send you, there are a few ways to do this. Divination is one of the most common ways to get their messages to you. You could also ask them to send you signs. Personally, when I'm asking my ancestors for signs, I use divination to try and get some symbolism to look out for. If I can't get anything from divination then I ask for specific things, such as coins. If you're the type to do dream work, you can also ask your ancestors to present themselves to you in your dreams.

Communicating with the ancestors isn't limited to these things, though, so see what works best for you. Sometimes different ancestors have different preferences and communicate different than others.

What can my ancestors do for me?

As I've mentioned before, your ancestors can guide you and protect you. You may also have ancestors who wish to help you with your magic workings, too.

Don't forget that your ancestors were once living people, too. They had their own boundaries when they were alive, and chances are they've got boundaries still. Be sure to get to know them, whether it be through listening to stories about them from your living relatives or through your own means of communication. One ancestor may not offer the same guidance or assistance that another ancestor does.

A Page Out of my Book Of Shadows: Powerful Banishing Spell

The Spell:

Cleanse the area, using your preferred cleansing method.

Make a circle of salt around you going counter clockwise.

Use a large black or white taper candle.

Carve, sigils, runes, or intent into your candle. Personalize this step to your own practice.

Anoint your candle with banishing oil from top to bottom.

Meditate on your intent of banishing and specifically what it is you wish to banish from your home.

Repeat, “With the power of the elements in me, toxic energy will no longer be, Negative [Entity / person / spirit / etc.] be out of my life, leave my space with only light.” Three times.

On the last chant light your candle.

Meditate with your candle in the circle of salt until the candle has completely burnt down.

The oil:

Use any oil of your choice as a base. Such as: Olive Oil, Vegetable Oil, Sun Flower Oil, Avocado Oil, etc.

Add: Cayenne pepper

Chili powder

Cinnamon

Black Pepper

Make sure to mix the ingredients together regularly.

Let this sit for about a week before use.

When the oil is done sitting strain through a cheese cloth to get only oil.

This oil can be a skin irritant so please try not to touch it directly with your skin.

Why am I sharing this?

When I began my practice I made a lot of mistakes and invited a lot of entities into my home that I should not have. I did not know how to banish entities from my space so I spent years living in a very heavily haunted home. There was never a dull moment. The entities in my home made the mental health of me and my family much worse. We had a bird that could speak and would often speak to one of the entities in the home. After the bird unexpectedly died of unknown causes the entity was claiming that he killed the bird and continued to brag about it. Finally after a lot of research I was able to banish them.

I do not think that banishing spells are accessible enough to young witches. In fact I see many people preach about how important banishing is and then refuse to teach novice witches how to banish. I agree that young witches should not rely on social medias as their only source of information. However, it is important to continue to keep this kind of information as accessible as possible for the ones that do or the ones who may have limited access to resources.

I have used this method of banishing multiple times and it has worked without a problem every time. I wanted to share this incase anyone needed to know how to banish.

Please stay safe.
