It centres a morally ambiguous heroine who is absolutely determined to get what she wants while also being hurt and fragile and hoping not to be destroyed by the world

It deals with Andromeda’s previous moral culpability as an accessory to Bellatrix’s cruelty and Lucius’ bigotry, and the necessity of a political consciousness

Everyone has trauma; Ted brings his own emotional baggage to the table

Explores Andromeda’s co-dependent and eventually toxic friendship/courtship with Lucius, her childhood friend

the question is, who will escape familial cycles of abuse and power, and who won’t

Ted tries not to let pureblood supremacy wear him down but the going gets tough

Andromeda finds friends not just love

There’s cute Andromeda and Sirius shenanigans

and less cute shenanigans between Bellatrix and Andromeda – it’s hard being Bella’s favourite sister

(Narcissa is perceptive, perhaps too perceptive)

Also wartime intrigue involving Moody, Dumbledore & Slughorn
