The Reversal of Desire "The Tools" — Phil Stutz
(The Tools by Phil Stutz and Barry Michels)
I think everyone should make dumb ugly zines and bad music and write shitty books with weird premises and publish them for pay what you will online. I think people should write plays that are only ever intended to be performed with their friends in their living rooms. I think people who like ttrpgs should explore bizarre itch.io games and new systems that have no affiliation whatsoever with any major publishing house. If youre lucky enough to have a cool local community radio station nearby you should listen to that and what people close to you have to say and what they're creating that has no focus on being nationally appealing. I just think creation should be more joyful and local both in a geographic sense and a personal and social sense and unconcerned with whether or not it will be commercially viable or slick or even good beyond your own pride in it. And I think it's good to seek out art that exists for its own sake or to appeal to the community it was created within
I promise I’ll stop bitching after this, but the fact that women now, both young and older, are incapable of articulating their essences without reference to another entity as a template for their way of being and thinking is beyond sad. When you go out into the world and live your own experiences and reflect upon them without outside noise, you realize you do not need anyone else’s label. You don’t even need to label yourself. You just stand firm in whatever makes sense to and for you and call it a day. No Pinterest moodboard needed. Identity becomes meaningless because your essence remains.
Everything about your 20s should be foundational
What I want is who I am. and the discomfort of becoming is necessary.
God fuck this era of tik tok morality and virtue signalling in which everyone who exists on gods green internet must prostrate themselves before the court of public opinion, interrupting themselves every 2 minutes to apologize for existing.
God forbid you have nice things and make a video about it without a disclaimer every minute about how you acknowledge your privilege and that you aren’t trying to shame anyone, The moral police will be on your ass immediately.
People who care about content creators loudly telegraphing their goodness and honour idolize them far too much.
Beauty is ritual
NOW ON PATREON: This collection contains two thirds of Ruin of the House of the Divine Visage, the graphic novel I'm making with my partner Eve Greenwood.
In a monastery where revealing one's face is an affront to the god housed inside its very chambers, what happens when one young man accidentally sees the face of another?
My patreon will be the only place to read Ruin until it goes to print sometime in 2024, so if you want your fix of repressed gays in a monastery right now, just $3 will get you there.
