🌕 Q1 What triggers you to seek isolation?

1a Can you think of any memories where you were taught to self isolate or shamed for an emotional response?

2a Was it safe for you to express your emotions openly as a child?

🌖 Q2 What adult did you feel comfortable around if any at all? What actions did this adult take to establish an environment where you could express yourself? If none, when was a moment you felt safe being seen & heard?

🌗 Q3 Why do you Isolate? Do you find yourself isolating even when it’s the last thing you want?

1a were you made to feel like a burden, or as if you were ridiculous or dramatic for your emotions growing up?

2a Are you comfortable with emotional comfort/support & validation when you are feeling this way?

3a How can people best approach you in moments of distress like this? Do you struggle with feelings of disgust towards support from your loved ones when you are isolating?

🌘 Q4 To take Q3 -3a a little deeper, have you dealt with intense shame & embarrassment when trusting others with your emotions? Perhaps someone you trusted most took advantage of your vulnerability and used it to hurt you? Do you think this could be linked to any of the disgust you feel?

✨The way the adults treat us growing up affects everything about our lives. Sometimes we don’t realize the depths of our childhood wounds.✨

Isolation can be tempting, and it’s not easy to walk away from. If you’re not ready yet that’s okay, let’s think about how we can turn isolation into self care. Feeling emotionally defeated, overwhelmed, or having a straight up mental breakdown? Run a bath if you have one, put some shampoo in there for bubbles. Next time you’re at dollar tree and have a few extra bucks grab some face masks and fuzzy socks & a bath bomb. Put it all in a drawer grab them when you need them. Take the time to de-escalate your emotions and instead of isolation and self hatred let’s take physical and mental care of ourselves.

Let’s think about some coping mechanisms we can use:

(Note: sometimes coping mechanisms aren’t easy to use, be patient with yourself. Breaking cycles like this is HARD and very personal; have empathy for yourself.)

Some coping methods ive used in place of tw self harming

🌒 Take a thick notebook and a pen, use the pen in a scribbling motion to rip right through the papers. It has a similar feeling to cutting & can relieve some of the physical stress.

🌓 It’s not perfect, but scratching pillows / your bed can also help relieve some of the physical build up.

Need to talk to someone but aren’t comfortable ?

🌔 I personally am not a huge fan of journaling, while I do enjoy it at times in moments of extreme distress journaling isn’t always the best option for me. I have a hard time organizing my thoughts; and get overwhelmed easily. So I record myself venting, I cry, scream, yell, get it all out.

🌕 Perhaps write a letter to your inner child, or even yourself now. Detail how you feel, and support yourself. Lift yourself up, remind yourself of all you have accomplished no matter how minuscule it feels to you. Remember who you were last year and look at now, what improvements have you made? Where have you slacked? List out how you can improve these habits & begin breaking out of the cycles that no longer serve you.
